Default Searched: Mounting a Backup Camera

Hi,

I just installed my new Avic Z2 in my 05 STi, and am wondering on how I should go about installing/mounting my backup/rear-view camera.

THIS is the camera I have.

Do I cut a hole in my bumper? Trunk? Anything clean is my main point, I don't want this thing hanging out under my wing .

If you had an 06/07, or at least the trunk from one, I'd say drill a hole in the emblem and put it through there. That camera seem kinda big for that though.

drill thru the bumper right above the license plate...

you want it mounted in the middle, not too high, not too low

Get the license plate bracket that is made to hold the camera. No drilling needed.

I was thinking of getting that one, but don't you think someone might steal it? From the pictures, it looks like you just screw the bracket on.

I know audiovox makes them. as well as a bunch of other "unknown" brands.

A regular thief won't be able to steal it. They use the Security lock hex bolts to screw in. (the hex bolts that need a hollow allen key)

i just removed my trunk cylinder yesterday hoping to do the exact same thing, but it's not quite a perfect circle when removed - almost looks like a cross.

anybody have any ideas on how to round the hole out? a file would take forever. maybe time to break out the dremel?

Arrow

I went with this camera since it mounts using the factory license plate holes. I didn't want a full plate since I have the CF carbing craft license plate holder that fills that entire area... and I refuse to drill a hole through the CF and then when it's time to sell it no one will buy it..lol

Hooking it up to my d3 once I get it.

Can't wait :-)
