Default Cleaned boost control solenoid today (02 WRX)

I was getting ready for another protune scheduled for tomorrow and was checking everything to make sure everything is in order. Upon checking vacuum lines, I have noticed oil build up inside of coupler which connects two vacuum lines. Realizing that line leads all the way to the boost solenoid, decision was made to take everything apart and inspect the boost control solenoid.

Two hoses directly connected to boost solenoid in fact had visible oil residue, which meant that there must be oil residue inside of boost solenoid.

I used MAF cleaner to flush out any oil inside of boost control solenoid and as expected brownish oily residue came out from one of the nipple.

Haven't pushed my car hard yet, but so far boost builds up smoothly and everything seems fine. You will need to remove stock intake airbox in order to take two 10mm bolts that hold boost solenoid in place.

Update:

Car seems (no way to prove) to boost smoother after cleaning out the BCS... it may be worth doing this if you find a lot of oil build up inside of turbo inlet hose.

Just a sidenote, I've always been able to remove the BCS bolts with a small ratchet and long socket. Never had to remove the airbox.

that is a good idea, also i noticed u have one of those husky oil catch can. how is that working for you? i have the samething at the same location. but i still get oil residue aroun d the T connection.

did u leave the filter connected or left it out? i left mine out because it seemed like the engine would have a hard time sucking through the filter.

simprezl25, I took out the filter for the same reason. Since I changed from M1 to German castrol, car is not losing much oil at all. Turbo inlet, IC and y-pipe all look pretty clean.

simprezl25, good luck with it. It is a good preventive maintenance thing that costs close to nothing.

Thanks for the tips. Do the two hoses connected to it just pull off? Anything fragile inside?

Thanks

i know this is an incredibly old thread, but i just got a wrx and the boost solenoid is not hooked up! i was wondering if you have a diagram (or could just explain to me) of where the vacuum lines go and also if it matters which way they are hooked up? I'm assuming one goes directly to the wastegate and the other goes to the throttle body or intake plenum?

Thanks!
