Detroit Auto Show: Borrego 7-seater SUV to offer Kia’s first V8

After sister company Hyundai unveiled their new Genesis luxury sedan with a range-topping TAU V8 engine, Kia showed its new V8 powered 7-seater SUV at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show. Kia will offer the Borrego with 3.8L V6 and its first 4.6L V8 DOHC engine that produces more than 300-horsepower. The V8 engine is mated to Kia’s new six-speed automatic transmission.

The new Kia SUV also offers power-adjustable pedals and Kia’s first DVD navigation system as options.
Kia hopes to sell hopes to sell 48,000 units of the Borrego worldwide with 18,000 allocated to the South Korean market and 30,000 for overseas. The SUV will be made in Korea and will go on sale in North America later this summer.

Default No, I didn't search at the USPTO

How original! GM sue for trademark infringement yet, or did they license the name to Kia?

Doesn't GM own Kia?

Or is that Daewoo?

Zing! You got me. GM bought Daewoo IIRC but I don't know if there's a relationship w/Kia. The name was the first thing that caught my attention, never mind the Tribeca (Town & Country?) grille cloning.

Yes GM bought Daewoo, and is making full use of its line up in Korea and India. Not sure about China or South East Asia.
Kia is owned by Hyundai. Initially they were trying to change the image to an upscale version of Hyundai like Acura is to Honda, so they released Kia Amanti. However they soon realized it ain't happening. So now Hyundai is trying to go upscale, while Kia stays where it is.
