Default idler pulley and timing belt issues

Happy Tuesday!!! At 80 mph my 02 WRX wagon just lost all power. The long and short is that it was towed to the dealer and they told me that the idler pulley sheered off and trashed the timing belt and oh yeah bent all the valves. The car has 69k on it and i wondered if anyone has had this type of issue before. The only mods on the car are cosmetic (hoses, wiring, etc). I think im in for a costly repair, so i wanted to gather all my facts first. Sorry if this is posted in the wrong thread. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Bonehed

Default warranty issue

the dealer called today and informed me that i need an engine replacement. I had a 5yr or 60k warranty that is at exactly 5 years and 69k. I called SOA to see if i can get a mulligan. Anyone have any experience with warranty issues and SOA.

You could take a look in the warrenty section, but I doubt you are going to have much luck. good luck with whatever happens

belts aren't covered under the 5 year warranty anyway, so they may have denied even if you were still under it.

I certainly have had that kind of an issue:

It lasted 185k miles though. The belt didn't break and it still ran at that point, plus my old 2.2 is non-interference.

ouch.... if you have no hope with them replacing your motor under warranty, then look at the bright side, 2.5L !
