it's a beater, and as a second car for 1 driver, they probably figure it won't be driven much.

I'm hoping $15 is the premium increase AAA is going to come back with on my request for adding a 993 to my policy.

they raped me on my first car for a rate. the other 3 I added were anywhere from $18 - $26 more. Being older + spotless driving record = better rates on multicar discount. Ask your insurance company what other discounts they offer. Some have a small discount for things such as being a member of a credit union.

They figure that you can only drive one car at a time, thus they are essentially insuring only one car at a time.

mld ftw! I work for an insurance company chances are they rated you on the 2nd car which was prob cheaper to insure. And rated your wrx as pleasure vehicle.

Buddy of mine actually lowered his insurance by a couple hundred a year back in high school by also insuring the rusted out 69 Toyota sitting in his grandmother's barn for the multicar discount...go figure.

When I added a second car to my policy, it went down from $1300 to $1100 a year.

<=== I'm an agent...it is the multi-vehicle discount, and they are rating the less expensive vehicle as your commuting vehicle.

Also there may have been points, accident or violations that have "dropped" off now that there was a change to the policy (adding the beater) the policy is rated more favorably...you may also be older now and getting a break there.

Yup. Depending on how you actually do the split on mileage... you can come out paying LESS for insurance. My insurance actually went DOWN when I put a beater on the policy for 5k miles a year!

Similar thing happened to me. I added a 14yo Honda, and it went up ~$12. I then added renter's insurance, and it dropped $20.. Made no sense to me, but I'll take it.

it could be worse... I want to drop my ex wife & her car from my policy... My premium is going UP $100 every 6 months... 1 less driver, 1 less car... MORE monthly money... Lovely...
