You can use your current harness, it just doesn't allow you to utilize the AVCS (the cam just stays on the more aggressive lobes). I don't know about emissions...I don't have to worry about it in Oregon

THE CAR IS DONE! FINALLY! Going to pick it up momentarily. 1k miles from now it should be sitting at a good 375whp

It's hard - but - no turbo for 500 miles. You'll have to reorient yourself to where all the control settings go where with what. Pump toggle switch is up with UTEC alc. map #3? and AVC-R map B, etc.

If you're down this way I still have the wrx wagon weather cover.

So coudl you tell us what was the final outcome. Sounds like Grupe-S did something to make things happen and would like to know your final opinion.

Yeah, the whole no turbo thing is hard, but will be well worth it! It is running great, just needs the tune and it will be set to run for a long time

Dave, I would love that cover. I will be coming down within the next few weeks, hopefully sooner so I will give ya a call

So I basically told RalliTEK to do what they felt was the best, and most cost effective solution. What they ended up doing was pulling the heads and replacing/repairing any issues caused by the rust. There was no rust in the rest of the motor, looked brand new so they left that.

They also gave me a nice discount to help with the frustration over the last few months, though most of it wasn't their fault.

RalliTEK, and all of the guys there were AWESOME! I can't say enough about the commitment they had and they went out of their way to make the end result put a smile on my face and instantly forget all the frustration of the last couple months If you live in the Oregon/Washington area I would insist that you try RalliTEK before anyone else. Even if it were to cost a little more (which it most likely would cost less) the service you would get would make it worth your while!

Obviously there is a lot left unsaid about the Gruppe-S connection. I'm curious but I know how things can get muddled and saying nothing may be best.

Anyhoo. Take the car to the coast or up in the mountains so you can just roll thru all the rpms. The car is plenty fun without the turbo. Keep us updated. I'll be waiting for a ride.

John
What are you doing with the tranny now. I'd sure give Robert a call as he is the one who put it together and knows where all the bones are buried.

Soooooooo. What is going on g**dmnt! The price of gas will be so high when you get the car done you wont be able to drive it more than 50 miles a week.

If anyone else is thinking of doing this, don't forget to swap the cam gears! David said this is the most common mistake made with these swaps, which pretty much ruins it instantly...

I honestly can't say enough about RalliTEK. They are a great bunch of guys that are willing to go the extra mile to make sure you are happy.

I plan on driving it for maybe another 1k miles and then it's time to hit the dyno. I have a few pics of the motor i'll post soon and we'll see how it runs on friday
I am swapping an 05 sti longblock into my 04 wrx. I ordered the gruppe-s adapter, but why swap cam gears? I was unaware of anything else other than the avcs issue. Also,(just for my info) doesnt avcs default to full advanced when not plugged?

I don't know about the whole cam gear thing...that's just what i was told from RalliTEK, but yes, it will automatically default to the full advanced mode, which i understand gives us a little less power in the low end...but hey, it's better than the wrx engines right?

The car is pretty much ready for the dyno, it's just a matter of getting it up there and finding a way home, haha. I am going to have the injectors flow tested to ensure they're good, and the cam seal has a slight leak i want to take care of. So PDX is going to finish up the final touches and then dyno time!

Hi John
Be sure to put in a fresh fuel filter, wash and wax the car so it looks good when you take pics of the tune. Are you going to have Tim tune for alcohol inj. and a 100 Octane [3 gal of Toluene per tank] map? That is probably overkill. I'm sure you will be putting down at least 340# trq. and around 350whp. If the car was still mine I'd go for conservative tunes as it will still be a beast and should run forever on lower HP.

What's up with the wagon ??? Give us a hint at least. 350whp??? Or did you decide to get out from under the gas eating beast. Wouldn't blame you.
