Default Phase II 2.5 block with Phase I 2.2 heads

I want to use a SOHC EJ25 block from a 99 Forrester with a set of 2.2 heads from a 93 Legacy. Going into a 91 Legacy. This is so I can retain the stock intake, and keep it non interference. Any issues to be aware of?

Or am I better off using the EJ25 heads and just swapping harnesses? But then it will be interference if the belt breaks.

Thisa is for an off-road rig, so long term durability is key. I can change a belt on the trail, but I can't replace valves.

I am interested in the non interference motors can someone explain this would also be a off road application.

Well, all EJ22 until 96 or early 97 where a non interference design. Meaning that there is clearance for the valve to be open, and the piston to be at top of cylinder and nothing will hit.

I have a spare SOHC EJ25 from a Forrester, I want the extra displacement, but don't want the rik of a belt breaking and valves colliding with pistons.

My thinking is 2.5 block with old school 2.2 heads on it. Has anyone done this?

It has been done. Search for "high compression frankenstein" in either the NA or conversions forums. It's a good reliable setup, but still interference due to the comression ratio. Much less dish on the pistons of the phase II EJ25.
