Redesigned Acura TSX and TL arriving next year

Acura may be having troubling with the design of its NSX flagship but the launch of its next-generation TSX (Accord Euro) is still on track for a mid-2009 introduction. The model will adopt styling similar to that previewed by the Honda Tourer concept unveiled at last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show and it will also be Acura’s first diesel model. The new 2.2L four-cylinder i-DETC clean diesel expected to power the new TSX is already sold in the European version of the current model.

Speaking with Automotive News at the recent Detroit Auto Show, Honda boss Takeo Fukui confirmed the introduction of a diesel powered Acura and said other models in Honda/Acura’s U.S. lineup would get diesel power as well. Other engines expected to feature in the TSX lineup include two petrol engines of 2.0L and 2.4L capacities, and possibly a turbocharged version.

“All along, we’ve said there would be a diesel in Acura,” said Dick Colliver, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co. “The whole direction is to separate Acura and Honda more. In five to six years, Acura will be a tier 1 luxury brand. The face of Acura will be totally different,” he boasted.

Next year will also see the launch of a brand new TL sedan, Colliver revealed, and this could be followed in 2010 by a new V6 diesel.

IMO, Acura/Honda is going the way of Subaru in terms of aesthetics (read: fugly).

An AWD turbodiesel TSX wagon with a 6-speed manual would be a drool-worthy car.

Current TL looks great. Acura, don't mess with sucess! I heard a TSX SH AWD is coming out with the RDX's powerplaint and drivetrain. It'll be interesting to see how that one turns out.

The thing looks like a slammed RDX.

And I hate the forums at TOV, the guys there have really drunk the Honda Kool-Aid.

Right and the folks over at nasioc don't have the boxer rumble when they pass gas? Everything is relative my friend. TOV is one of the oldest Honda sites I know with a wealth of insight.

Updated pics and a video of the upcoming Euro-Accord Wagon.

Wouldn't be surprised if we do see a TSX wagon here in the states.

Jeff and Tuan kick ass, I'll admit that.

The forums though are full of childish fanboys who think everything that isn't Honda sucks.

The original article is mistaken or misleading. The 2009 Acura TSX & TL are not coming out next year and the TSX will not look like that picture.

Acura dealers are now ordering the 2009 TSX and they will arrive on dealer lots in 6 to 8 weeks depending on dealership proximity to Japan.

The 2009 TL will follow some months later, rolling into Acura dealer lots late this summer or early fall.

The new TSX will be based on the Euro-Accord with a bump in power.

The new TL is going to be more differentiated from the Accord and base models should produce more than 300 horsepower.

Type-S versions of both models should arrive later with a nice array of goodies: turbocharging, Advanced-VTEC, DSG, SH-AWD, etc...

As always, these are estimates because Honda is stone silent on its future product offerings.

This is correct. The new 2009 TSX will be available late Feb/early March. A lot of people are mad because ACURA has not showed the car at all. Rumors are that it will debut at the NY Auto Show. A diesel will be offered in year 2009, as in next year.

Default New York Auto Show: 2009 Acura TSX gets a milk mustache grille

Quote:
We were never to pleased with the design direction Acura is taking with their grilles. Joining the MDX and the RL, the 2009 Acura TSX also gets a milk mustache. Ready to go on sale in spring, we estimate that pricing will be within a grand of the current car’s.

Acura will continue using the boring 2.4 liter motor now with four less horsepower, down to 201, but with 172lb-ft. The new in-line 4-cylinder engine wil give it more usable power across a much wider rpm range. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual or an optional Sequential SportShift 5-speed automatic gearbox. Acura will also add a new 2.2 liter i-DTEC diesel engine that Honda showed at the 2008 Detroit Motor Show.

The diesel sounds econo-riffic, but where’s the 260-hp 2.3 turbo with a six-speed manual we were hoping for? How about some SH-AWD goodness for our FWD-hatin’ souls?

Too bad the Honda 2.2L diesel is slow and offers no better fuel economy than a Yaris.

Argh... still sticking w/ the I4, huh? I swear...

That grill will need to be replaced with whatever Mugen cooks up ASAP... assuming Mugen goes low-key like their last grill for this car. That "brick wall" mesh is also bleh.
