Default open source problem?

hey guys i have a 02 wrx and i was stage two with a cobb ap v2 and i sold it to help restore my dads car and when i did i went to a local tuner and wanted him to do a basic open ecu tune and when i got there he ran it on the dyno got my base number then when he went to put his tune on it and run it again about 2k rpms the motor would like it fuel cut and the motor would die he even tried rewritting the whole tune and still nothing so we went back to stock and the car ran fine.... the only things i can see being the problem was i was in some type of limp mode or something because i had a bad fuse i fixed that and i had a cheap turbo timmer that i took out i just dont know whats going wrong with it i dont know if it could be the ap or what any help would be great thanks.

Punctuation helps

First and foremost - you need to change your thread's heading, it is misleading. This IS NOT a problem with opensource tuning at all, but rather your "tuners" inability to actually tune your Subaru.

SO as I understand it, you:

1. Reflashed back to stock to do a base run - and all was good.
2. Your "local tuner" fashed "his tune" the car started to run very poor
3. Flashed back to stock and it run normal again.

Not to be an ass, but perhaps your local "tuner" has no idea what he is doing?

How did he come up with his "tune"??? Did he log your car and then adjust your ROM to suit your car??? Or did he just download a "stage" ROM and expect it to work???

Sure you can download a "stage" ROM for your car, but most times they will need to be fine tuned to suit your particular mods.

If I was you, I'd take your car to a tuner that knows what he/she is doing - before you end up breaking your engine.

P.S. A list of your exact mods always helps

Sorry about not having any Punctuation its a bad habit of mine. But your right about the way the car runs, fine stock, and ****ty when he puts his tune on it. The tuner is not a bad tuner at all the shop has been doing this for a while and i have personaly seen great results from the shop. I dont really know where else to put this ? so i figured the only time i had a prob with the car is when i use open ecu flash. sorry for the bad post ill try to keep myself stright.

a list of mods done to the car are as follow

Full catless ehxaust from the up pipe back
a spt intake
a six speed swap with a spiider dccd controler
smc meth kit

thats about it. Also if it matter when i had the ap the car took the maps from ap fine and worked great. i dont want to have to spend all the money on another ap but i dont want to put my new motor in my car if i cant tune it . Thanks for the help and if any of this makes sence and helps thank u.

Have you got a tactrix (openport) cable and WB02? The mods you have are common and quite easy to tune for - any decent tuner should be able to tune for them. Which is why I am suprised that your "tuner" couldn't!

Anyhoo, you could check out one of the free base-maps over on RomRaider.com or osecuroms.org to suit your car and mods and then log and make any extra changes required. There shouldn't be much changes needed if you choose the right base map.

I'd hazard a guess that the ROM you were trying to flash was running more boost, different fuel, or more timing - which didn't suit your car and caused it to hit one of the failsafe limiters.

Did he flash the correct rom on your car. He could be flashing the wrong rom. Like a 2005 rom over a 2002 ecu.

Also does he have launch control on it. It could be he doesn't know how to use the launch control patch properly. He could have set launch control for 5000 rpm which is actually a 5000 rpm REDUCTION of the rev limiter.

There is nothing you can do with an AP that you can't do with OpenSource.

It really is a case of USER ERROR if they can't get your car to run properly. It is 100% Tuner error. I hope they didn't charge you.

^^Then seek another tuner now before something goes wrong

As I asked earlier, do you have a tactrix cable?

np. There should be several free stage 1 or stage 2 maps around for your car to suit your mods.

What is the exact ROM id? Is it A4SGE01C?

Post what ROM you have and I'll link a few free stage ROMs to suit.
