You should google the suggested names. For example, eTune comes back with 70,000+ hits in which the name is already used by a variety of companies as company titles, software titles, etc. A suggested name should have relatively few hits, not used by anyone in a business or open source capacity, no registered trademarks, and the domain name is not taken:

(Open Source ECU Tune)

This is a nice generic name as once we have CAN flash going we will be able to support many vehicles including domestics.

Well, wasn't a particular jab at that name. Some of the other suggested names so far also have the same issue. Keep em' coming, though. The more, the better!

Personally, I like something that rolls off the tongue. I think "osecutune" is a mouthful. Of course, I'm not making the name decision so you don't have to listen to me.

Why not conduct a poll with the leading candidates which are known to be trademark-free and registerable as a .com?

This reminds me of the poppler episode of futurama
Quote:
[Planet Express: Lounge. The whole crew are gathered around the table eating the things.]
HERMES: Oh, man, I'm inhaling these things! You guys scored some primo stuff here.
[Zoidberg eats some.]
ZOIDBERG: They're tastier than an unguarded penguin nest. What do you call them?
LEELA: We haven't thought of a name yet.
BENDER: They're tasty, right? Let's call 'em "Tasty-cles".
[Hermes gasps.]
AMY: Ew!
ZOIDBERG: No!
LEELA: We can't call them that.
BENDER: Why not?
LEELA: It sounds too much like those frozen rocky mountain oysters on a stick. You know, Test-cicles?
[Hermes types something on a computer.]
HERMES: According to government records, the only names not yet trademarked are "Popplers" and "Zittzers".
FRY: I know, we'll call them Popplers!
BENDER: Good idea.
ZOIDBERG: Oh, yeah, why not?
AMY: You sure picked it.
FRY: Swish!

I'm definitely not that high on the hiearchy. But keep the names coming. Jared is likely to pick one soon.

I stole your idea! No really I just did not see your post. I like that name too. Since the enginuity is coupled w/ ECUFlash, it makes sense to name it that because you flash with ECUFlash and tune using enginuity.

Since (eventually) enginuity will integrate ECUFlash (basically enginuity will just launch ECUFlash and start the flash process with the current loaded ROM), this name makes good sense to me. Also, once CAN Flashing is done enginuity will support a ton of different ECUs.

Also, enginuity may grow into a hybrid of coding languages, each running a seperate process (IE flashing is written in C, not Java)...
