Since (eventually) enginuity will integrate ECUFlash (basically enginuity will just launch ECUFlash and start the flash process with the current loaded ROM), this name makes good sense to me. Also, once CAN Flashing is done enginuity will support a ton of different ECUs.
I think trying to piggyback on another project's name and fame, openecu, is just a bad idea.

Also, CAN support in ecuFlash won't provide access to any other ECUs beyond the new Subarus and Evos.

How about ALOTEMS (Automotive/Automobile Logging and Offline Tuning Engine Management System)

Not the sexiest name, but it would evoke the idea that it can be leveraged for other cars in the future. Offline could be changed to something else if RAMTune or whatever it's called ever gets added in. And .com/net/org are available!

Start reading through old threads on openecu.org forums. There is a fair amount of background information there. This started back in 2005, so hope you've got some time to kill.

Although it may require new hardware, it can be done. 2007 emissions standards made every automobile sold in the USA adhere to the J2534 API which includes reading and writing ECUs. You can obtain a reflash CD from any automaker. Disassembly (of the ROMS) and coding all of that flash process is what will be hard. It will take more effort, yes, but we are not limitted to EVOs and Subarus or one specific ECU brand. Figuring out the flash process for a manufacturer will be easy once a cable is made and software written for it. The specification for the CAN Bus J2534 API can be had for 49.95. I already have the Subaru reflash CD. Then it is as simple as making the cable (if we need to as this standard can go over RS232), adding tracing to the driver, and viola, you have your flash process by using the manufacturer's reflash CD.

http://www.drewtech.com/support/j2534/

What I am missing is a test ECU that is listed on the Subaru reflash CD (to put it on a bench).

I'd be interested in helping build a CAN Bus cable. Do you know if the creator if the tactrix cable (cboles) from openecu.org intends to make one?

I'm thinking about purchasing that document in that link.

So will it be LTF

Also, I am more than happy to provide free webhosting for you. My webhost of 5 years allows me unimited domain hosting with 500GB of server space and 5TBmonth data transfer/traffic - and I'm lucky to use 500MB of space and 100MB of traffic a month

Way more than enough for you to set up forums, ftp, website, emails, wiki, blog etc - Just let me know and I can have it up and running for you in a jiffy - I will also install cms, forums, blog, wiki packages for you you like

I already have it all. I need an ECU (any ECU on the Subaru CD reflash list, which I may be able to get a broken one for cheap (05 STI) and fix it myself once I buy the appropriate tools). I think the Tactrix cable will work and yes, I have contacted Colby about this. So far he is only working on a DLL for the cable to enable Subaru and Mitsu CAN Flashing. His code is tightly integrated with the GUI (yes I have a copy), so I may start from scratch so any car can work (2003+ models is what is in the emissions standards). This, however would de-couple enginuity from ecuflash. I want to avoid this.

just 2 little cents..

i hate anything with "ECU" in the title..

too many syllables... when pronounced.. I agree with Bill on his parameters..

easy to spell, easy to pronounce

youtune
utune.

whatever.. is kinda catchy

like itunes (and all that other apple i-crap) and like you-tube.. also very current..

damn it.. when old people are refering to youtube... it has to be current..

You should google these names. Youtune, like some of the other suggestions, has a ton of hits and is already used as a title to software, sites, businesses, etc. And the domain name is already taken.

I was very happy to run across this thread today.

In the end the name won't mean much to anybody but us, but I think it should include "open" or "free" and "tune" somehow.

I'm very glad to see this project continuing. There have been several decent selections, so all I could think of were:

OStunify
freetunify

I like "tunify" but it looks like the Natural Language Processing geeks have already claimed that word.

Alright guys, the name is decided on. I'm working with a new web host to get things ready to go. I'm not going to give any time estimates at all this time as they always come back and bite me in the ass, but things are finally moving again.

Yep, basically the site should be exactly the same as it was with a new name. I've pulled everything from the old host and migated it to the new one. I'm holding off with announcing anything but you'll know soon enough. Depending on what we're able to get done, we may be going live with some things not working properly but it'll get there eventually.

Jared, more than happy to lend a hand mate ... again ....

P.S: Will this be an annual thing - changing the name?
