Default Why I don't like 1 merged thread per rally

Some people want to come on i-club and talk about the coverage that they watched the night before, or to talk excitedly about the upcoming coverage. Some people come here to relay information that they get from whatever web site or radio coverage, or whatever, before it actually makes it onto tv. This is great for people who can't wait, but man, the first two days of the Sweden rally were ruined for me because I already knew what was going to happen! I'd like to be able to come on and talk with others about the rally without reading this:

Don't read this:

Tommi is out!!

Or something to that effect. Kinda hard not to read it once you've already looked at it, no?

Anyhow, maybe we could have more than just one thread for the next rally? I don't know how it would work, one "spoiler" thread and one "I don't want to know until I watch it" thread. Although now it sort of looks like a dumb idea, but maybe somebody else can come up with a better idea. I don't want to propose ridding either concept, because I think they are both good. Especially since some people can't even watch the coverage.

Blah blah, somebody else feel free to chime in here. Thanks.

Usually, yes.....

Normally there's only one thread on the rally...... it used to be worse when we were waiting for up to 2 months later for the actual rally on TV...

I personally check the web for live updates on each of the special stages and then still watch the action on TV the same night.....

Some people still don't realise on how not to post new thread on this issue but with the always new members, it's hard for the moderators to control it....

Remember, the moderators can't always be online.... they try to do their best but we all have jobs, family, friends outside I-club and rallying.....

The only way to make sure to not see the results or Spoiler threads is not to check the Motorsports section during the day of the rally.....

I'm not trying to sound bitter, believe me. I'm basically asking if we could do anything different. And if not, no big deal. I'm not trying to make a big stink about this.

I know I know, but I was just suggesting that it would be nice if we could talk about the rally as it's going on.

Talking

ninrex, you sound like one indivual.

How can you talk about a rally without mentioning the goings on in the rally??

Who wants to read a thread with comments like "cor, wasnt the incar footage from that guy cool", thats about as in depth as it goes without mentioning the actually results and driver performances as far as i can see???

Work out what you want to ask then ask it , your first post is hilareous, top quality rambling.

This isn't what I meant at all. What I meant is, have you ever taped some sporting event on tv and you were going to watch it the next night, but you overheard some people talking about the result the next day, so it ruined the whole thing and you didn't want to watch it anymore? I was just seeing if anyone had any good ideas on how to handle this. Surely once you did see it though, you would want to talk to others about it like a giddy schoolgirl.

But as it seems that nobody else feels the way I do, I'm going to let this thread die peacefully, and resolve to simply avoid the rally thread until the coverage is over.

No! I don't think anybody is suggesting that we "delay" posting until after the coverage has been shown. That would be sooooo stupid! I guess that people like me just need to have more discipline and try not to look.

I was thinking, even if we did have 2 threads - a "spoiler" thread and a "don't tell me until I see it thread" it wouldn't work. Because after the show is over, posts in the spoiler thread would not belong there anymore. D'oh.

Anyway, don't worry about it, nobody's mad at you or anyone else. (at least concerning this topic)

My problem comes I think from a total lack of decent cable so I cannot watch the rally whatsoever. for $40 a month the only sports channel I get is ESPN. Not even ESPN2. So I appologize and I will in the future wait on saying anythign.

As much as I like the I-club, I WILL avoid it during SPV rally coverage weekend for the main prupose that I want to see the race on TV and not hear about it online.

Last year, I always got live coverage online (no video) thru e-mail and rally-live since SPV was so delayed on their airings.

Basically, just stay away from the motorspost forum during rally coverage...nothing will get spoiled!

Cheers,

Davis

Argh! You missed my point, post anything you want at anytime, that's the reason for this forum.

i understand your point of view...
but the majority consensus is to have one merged thread per wrc event...

this helps to control the forum.. keep random threads from hogging all the space and provides one area for rally facts and gossip...

i'm sorry... if you want to wait to view the coverage, probably best you dont go on line and peek at it... seems the best way for those that want to see video only

thanks for the suggestion tho!
