Default idler pulley and timing belt blowout

About two weeks ago i was driving home and heard a loud pop under the hood. I immediately lost all power and pulled over. First thought was timing belt. I have a 5 year 60K warranty on the car and this month was 5 years and i am at 69k miles. Long story short the car was towed to the dealer and they can't do anything because i am out of warranty. The timing belt and pulley aren't even checked until 105K. The only option they offer is a 50k rebuilt engine for $5600. I called SOA and pleaded my case. They sent out a field agent who spoke to the dealer and they agreed to do a complete (top and bottom end) rebuild of my block. Parts and LABOR included. I was calm cool and collected and I guess it paid off. Subaru certainly hooked me for a few more years. I love my car and can't say anything bad about the company or my dealer that backed me up with my service records and explained how well I take care of the car. Thanks SOA!!

Yes, the timing belt is due at 105k. Chances are the pulley failed and caused the belt to come off and cause the problem.

Been seeing more and more pulleys failing lately. Not a good sign.

Just another example of how being calm and civilized pays off. Good to see SoA help out

Also goes to show just how far dealership loyalty goes. Chances are if you had no service records/had never been to the dealership for anything ever... SoA would have said NOPE.
