Is EcuFlash open? If so, close it, then edit the file.

You might need to copy the .xml file to your desktop, edit it there, then copy it back. Windows can get weird trying to edit a protected file in-place, but overwriting it is usually straight forward.

For all those that may have missed the instructions on how to prepare your ROM for patching:

ECUEdit used to be FREE - so older versions released FREE can be used to convert the ROM image size without having to worry about time trial running out. Download and use it as follows:

1. Download the old FREE version of ECUEdit from HERE.

2. Extract the file.

3. Click "ecuedit.exe".

4. Once it opens, click "File" and then click "convert 160K to 192K...".

5. Now browse and locate your ROM image and then once selected/highlighted click "open".

6. It will now have converted your ROM image size to 192KB and saved the new 192KB ROM image in the same directory as your ROM - with _192 added to the ROM image file name.

7. Now you can follow the rest of the LC patch instructions to patch your ROM and add launch control for FREE

Sounds like the same problem I was having. Try these steps..(if you're using Windows7)

Right click on the file> Properties> Security tab> Click "Edit" Button> Click Users> Check "Full Control" box> Click OK, then OK on the properties window to save and close the changes. Then you should be able to edit the file. Hope this helps with your problem.

I am having trouble patching my ROM. I downloaded the patch for my ECU calibration ID and unzipped the file, I imported into the same folder a copy of my ROM and I am stuck there. I cannt seem to get the thing into the command prompt for the "TinyPatcher.exe [your ROM file name] patch.dif" to work. I am missing something here. Also how do I check to see if the image is 192k?

Thanks for the help

99% of the time it's people simply not following the directions. The 192k is the file size. No offense, but if your having trouble trying to find the size of a file in Windows you might want to rethink using this patch. Depending on what view you have the file will either tell you right away (details/tiles view) or you can just place the pointer over the file (icons/list view).

Find out what ecu's internal ID is you can see this displayed in ecuflash under ROM Info or when you open up your rom in Romraider. Then get the patch that matches your ecu.
The difference is the patches are ecu specific.

Do you know if there is a patch for the v8 jdm sti ecu? I haven't checked my ecu's internal ID yet. Getting a cable soon.....!

I have a 2003 wrx with a version 8 JDM STI swap. 2004 JDM STI is a 16 bit ECU right?

Thanks,

Open the ROM in ECUflash, don't do anything with it. Just save it with ".hex" at the end. ECUflash saves ROM's as hex files by default.

This is the same error code I am getting.

I have an A4SGC00C ROM and the A4SGC00C patch. The ROM is a 192kb image, and I renamed it "A4SGC00C.hex". I use the patch.bat file. I tried using the command prompt but I do not know how to navigate to the necessary file, I've never used command prompt before. It is a Windows 7 laptop if that matters.

Any help would be appreciated.

Ok, I figured it out..kinda.

The reason it wouldn't patch is because when I changed it from .bin to .hex, I had to open the rom in ecuflash and then save it. Well ecuflash apparently saves it as a 160kb. so i converted it back to 192kb and got it patched.

NOW when i open the patched rom in ecuflash, the ONLY parameters it shows is the tiny wrex parameters.

EDIT: actually, it does this for all ROM's opened in ECUflash.

EDIT 2: got it figured out. I messed around in the options for ECUflash and got it working. I changed the rommetadata location.

Now when i go to "read from ecu", i don't get any selections of year/make/model. when you go file>options>rommetadata directory, what file do i need to open?

Sorry to whore this thread. I got the previous issues fixed but now I am having ^ this problem. I set the LC RPM delta to 1500 and the speed cutout or whatever to 2mph. Flashed it to the car and nothing.

Not sure if it matters but when I opened the tiny wrex parameters in ECUflash, none of them were at 0.

The RPM setting is the redline for the launch so 1500 would be really odd. If LC was working, flooring the gas/holding it down with that value would cause the motor to bounce off a 1500RPM limit until you reach the speed cut or take your foot off the gas.

2mph for the speed cut means if the car is rolling forward at a pace of 2mph the LC will not kick in.

I set mine to 10mph so if the car for some reason thought I was still rolling a bit vs. stopped it'd still keep the RPMs nice n safe.

The only issue with a large speed cut, like anything over 20, is that you could be holding back the launch speed if the car needs more RPMs than your launch value (1500RPM).

I'd review the thread to read up on everyone's experiences but as I recall a launch value of 5200-5400 is conservative without being too low to work, and 5600 was the sweet spot for a perfect launch? I don't have time to go re-read..

I actually can't do jack to my current ECU (crazy rare JDM ECU for this MY of the EJ207) and had to leave all the controls with the local ECUTEK dealer who spent like 8hrs re-tuning the car on a dyno and at the end forgot to re-apply the base patches when he was done so no LC or any special features.. Fuuuu. ;p
