Hey anyone ever heard of a little tiny sucking noise coming from the passenger foot well area? It happens when I just barely hit the gas. It kind of sounds like a little mouse squeaking....................anyone heard this?

Maybe theres mice living in your car? Or maybe its a little vacuum leak (not sure if there are any vacuum lines around there). Or its just your intake and it just sounds like it is coming from there and you shouldnt worry about it.

YES!!! I have this too, it's more under the hood but on the pass. side of the vehicle. I have a 98 Forester and when I'm out of throttle it goes away but as soon as I touch the gas you just hear this light sucking noise like a vacuum leak but I cant seem to find anything!! I was also told that the tranny in the foresters (5mt) whines a bit typically and it could be that as well......still fishing though!! lol.

Definately not the tranny. Probably from the drainage hole in the snorkus, or there is a bad seal somewhere in the intake.

if its an intake leak you should be able to locate it by spraying alcohol lightly on the outside of your intake with a spray bottle anywhere there is a seam or joint... if there is suction at any point the alcohol will evaporate quickly in the immediate area around the leak. Dont go spraying it in the filter or directly into the intake. I know you can chk for vac leaks on some cars by holding the throttle open slightly and keeping the rpm steady @ 2k or so for a few seconds (until vacuum stabilizes) and then releasing the accelerator quickly... if there is a moderate or worse vac leak the engine will usually fall past idle speed and stumble momentarily. Or you can stab the accelerator @ idle and if the engine stumbles before it accelerates then you may also have a intake leak after the MAF sensor or be running too lean for some other reason. These tests may not work on DBW throttle system since the ecu is controlling throttle valve position.

Yup, it's a silencer for the intake.

A vast majority of Impreza Owners dont buy thier cars for performance and anticipate modding and upgrading... They just want a reliable, driveable, very safe, and comfortable car. Part of that is quiet. The snorkus is a muffler for the intake and it does its job very well. I cant blame Subaru for using it and many other manufacturers use similar designs for the same reason. Subaru isn't trying to rip you off by stealing back HP or anything. Just an FYI for why its there. When I pulled mine i was suprised by how freaking huge it is. After seeing that i was impressed with how good the throttle response was with it in, especially being TBW.

i pulled off the silencer from my 00 gc.
was wondering if i opened the scoop up during rain will water flood my engine? since the intake then is right under the scoop without the snorkus...? |

RaceFaceXC- yea i read that thread, however it doesnt mention anything about a snorkus delete.
With the snorkus id feel confident in opening the scoop up but without, the intake is right below the scoop so im worried... (i ahve the regular 2000 RS hood/scoop) whaddya guys think? (sorry to kind of jack the thread) |

My SRI intake makes this noise. It kinda reminds of a turbo "whine" so I dont mind it much.
My guesses are that it may be: From a vaccum line that has to make a weird bend to reach my SRI. Its not pinched but at the bent angle it is SLIGHLY restricted possibly making this noise. Will reroute and check back. My fog light holes taking in air and whistling on something in its air flow. OR... since i got my WRX hood my car tries to whine like a turbo to be cool.... |

its probably the latter... if i was your car i would make that noise. and the BOV noise too, really obnoxiously.

It does fool everyone and that was never really my intention. this morning the owner of cv auto repair came up to me out front of his shop and starts telling how my car (I assume he thought it was a WRX) is really fast. Telling me my CF hood loks great, what have i done to it..., am i gonna get a chip, am i gonna get it tuned on a dyno... etc.
But I guess its not his fault unless you know to look for a top mount or for 17" rims you would never know without looking under the hood. The "turbo like" noises I get since i've installed my intake and hood, I assume are just whistling air but they sound like faint turbo sounds. "Ghosts in the system". |
