Default What does the Subaru logo mean?

... Does it mean anything special, or was Mr. Subaru just into astronomy at night while he built cars in Japan during the day? (YES, I AM bored.. but I was curious about it from when I started looking at buyin the WRX, and now I want to know the trueth... OR if not the truth, some funny story will do just fine).

Crazy newbies..... Just kidding! He he....

If I recall correctly, it's a name for a constelation(sp). The 7 stars constelation, if I remember. There's been a few posts that are alot more specific, just do a search and you'll find them.

Why Subaru? Subaru is the name of a star cluster in the Taurus constellation, which is called Pleiades in the West. Six of its stars are visible to the naked eye, but about 250 bluish stars can be seen if one uses a telescope. Credit for naming the company goes to Kenja Kita, the first president of Fuji Heavy Industries. As Fuji Heavy Industries had just taken over 5 of 12 companies resulting from the breakup of the old Nakajima Aircraft Company, Kita saw this unique name as the ideal symbol to express the unification of these 5 Fuji companies -- "Subaru".

Straight from the FAQ.

Right. The large star, to the nekkid eye when you look at the constellation, looks like there's one bright star, when it's really 2 stars, hence the one large star.

That will be awesome when Toyota buys out Subaru and kills off the brand.
