Default GMs Duramax V-8 Diesels to Get Upgrade

Quote:

The Duramax 6.6L turbo diesel V-8 engine used in its heavy duty trucks is being rebuilt to comply with CAFE standards in 2010, according to Automotive News.
GM announced that it will be spending $69 million to upgrade the Duramax some of that cost is going to update the engines plant in Moraine, Ohio.

The upgrade will fall mostly on the emissions system as GM said it will use selective catalytic reduction or urea to reduce emissions. The engine will also have a diesel particulate filter. The new engine will remain a 6.6L.

John Buttermore, GM Powertrain vice president of global manufacturing, said GM is transforming its product portfolio to reduce fuel consumption and emissions, and the 2010 Duramax diesel is an integral part of that transformation, as well as a component of GMs strategy to diversify vehicle energy sources.

hmmm I thought that the new 4.5L HO was going to replace this motor. The 4.5L looks to be a much better motor.

the 6.6 is for monster torque for stump pulling.

the 4.5 will be more of a gas V8 alternative.

"...urea to reduce emissions."

If you fail the smog test...pee on your motor.
