Question Tranny/Diff. Fluid Question

What mileage should I change these? I have a manual car. I would like to switch to the Redline fluids that Subaruparts.com offers. How much do I need to buy? Any other brands Motul, Amsoil, Mobile etc. to consider. Where to buy them. I use Mobile 1 religously so maybe I should use the mobile?

Thanks,
Dolphin

30k IIRC. Maintenance schedules are on the Ravensblade site as well as by logging into my.subaru.com. Fluid capacities are also on the Ravensblade site, my.subaru.com, and in your owner's manual... should be 3.7q for the 5MT tranny and .8q for the rear diff IIRC (definitely less than 4 for the tranny and 1 for the rear diff).

The maintenance interval is indeed 30K, but my very un-scientific opinion based somewhat on anecdotal evidence from this board, is that it seems like people who wait too long to switch to synthetic have more problems with grinding gears. Again, this is my very unscientific opinion.

I switched recently at ~12K and my transmission fluid was visually in good shape. My rear differential on the other hand was very, very dirty looking.

I just changed mine today - ~1700mi. Front was clean - a little bit of sediment, back was black. I'm thinking there must be some additive they put in there. The drain plug seemed to be coated in black grease.
For the record, I used redline 75w90NS in the front and 75w90 in the rear.
If you do this yourself - get a funnel with a long (>3') hose. I had to run to Sears after draining my rear diff because my funnel hose wasn't long enough.
Haven't driven long enough to form a useful opinion, but it definitely feels lighter, although it is maybe a touch harder to downshift into 1st.

i switched to NEO 75-90W RHD at about 7k mi. made all the difference in the world. the synchro's seem to like this fluid a lot more and shifting is a whole lot smoother and simpler.
