Default so, you're trying to decide between a new TV, new wheels, or saving your dough?

this was spurred by the "how much did you save in 07" thread...

i had to decide between a new TV, new wheels, or putting the money away. i decided after much debate to put the money away. after saving a few more bucks, i opened an e-trade account.

as of this moment, i've made enough money from my investments to buy a TV AND new wheels.

and of course, that money will go right back into my e-trade account, instead of going to either purchase.

Sweet. What were your picks that brought you good fortune?

I rode IDMI up yesterday from under a buck and sold half my shares at $3.66. Down today to $2.75 or so.

I am trying to decide between JDM headlights & taillights, CF hood & trunk, all 4, or saving. It all depends on how my taxes turn out... (Please give me a refund this year! I gave you 4k last year, you rotten mofos! )

That's all well and good, but it's certainly not investing... it's speculation. Sounds like you did well on that trade.

I do find that speculators have much in common with gamblers, in that they're always talking about the good trades (or wins), and not so much about the bad ones.

I do both. I invest primarily for the long term, but I also keep some money aside for speculation.

I used to speculate a bit, but I found I don't really have the time or interest to do it right. Used to play poker too, same story.

How many look look how much money I have threads do we need to see from you. It is more impressive to keep this stuff discreet. Unless you are actually Donald Trump and are gold plating your toilet.

is this addressed at me?

if it was, this thread simply shows that spending wisely can be more rewarding than buying crap i don't need. i'm not putting anyone down. this was also to discuss what people have been investing in lately.

i'm sure you get this bothered when people make threads about the new house they're purchasing. to me, i like to see the success and happiness of others.

"Spending wisely" for me is not getting into something I know nothing about. So etrade and what have you is a worse choice for me than a plasma. I know I can get value out of a plasma. I probably will lose money by trying to make money in the market. I didn't post in the "how much did you save" thread, but I make regular contributions to things and buy consumables as need and budget dictate.

Why do I get a "I'm smarter with my money than you" feeling from this thread?

I'd think owning Vizio would be equally wise then ... are they publicly traded?

i didn't put in the sell order until after it started moving back down. i was hoping it would nose up just a bit and the sell order would be completed.

i'm not in any rush to sell as i see the stock to continue to move up.

so just curious.. what inspired you to buy WHL just before they announced earnings and beat analyst expectations?

The wife and I are working our way through this book and re-thinking how we are allocating funds. It's a very good exercise so far.

My dilemma is saving up to buy a bugeye outright, or cut enough CC debt to take out a loan for one...
