Default Interesting article: Subaru's Senior suggests STI Junior

From AutoBlog, http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/07/s...ts-sti-junior/

"With the introduction of the latest STi, Subaru left a gaping hole between the mighty fast 224-hp WRX ($24,350) and the super-fast 305-hp WRX STi ($34,995). Since more customers will want to upgrade from the WRX than can afford the $10k+ leap to the STi, Subaru is reportedly considering slotting a new model in between the two, which could come in a little under $30k and offer about 265 horses under hood."

An interesting idea (the article notes, it's far off though), but I think I'd still rather get a WRX and mod it up to (and past) 265 hp and give it better handling. It's so easy and inexpensive; I'd feel like you were just forking over the extra $4-$5k just for the badge...but that's just me.

Then they can relabel the current squish-box a GT, and make this new car the WRX

Ha, someone got to this issue (different article) before me - sorry about that, skimmed the threads before I posted and didn't see it. Here's the earlier thread: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1443711

Why not just give the WRX 265HP, keep the 2.5i, and bring back the 2.5RS with 200HP?

Wonder if it will have the STI features and fender flares, or just be a nice WRX.

i think the sti needs to be dropped in price... to say $28k.

Then, produce a 350+hp sti monster that doesn't understeer as bad (something like a new 22b) for the current $35k.

They should just bump the WRX HP up, tighten down the suspension some and be done with it. With faster cars like the Mazdaspeed3 on the market for the same or less money than the WRX, it could use a power boost to remain near the top of the competition.

I like the way you think sir. I'd love to see a slightly stronger RS model.

Just offer the STI 6 speed option in the WRX, I don't care what else they do.

+1 - Agreed 110%. Although, had a friend test-drive both recently, he said that the '08 WRX felt better (handling, gear ratio - not sure the specs on that), although the '08 Mazdaspeed3 was damn fast (can't argue with 280 ft/lbs...).

That's all their doing though. Doesn't matter what they call the car. They're just calling the RS the WRX and the WRX whatever magical name they decide on.

I bet this WRX+ will be something similar to this:

http://www.worldcarfans.com/2070125....uned-by-sti-au

If this is indeed the case and it has a 6-speed option, I'd much rather have that than an STI.

i have a feeling this is more about the current body styles. no one likes the non-flared wrx.
