Question car wash?

is there anything i should worry about when using the Lazer Wash or the Rain Maker car washes? like water getting in through the hood scoop? after i leave the place my engine always smokes or steams every time i drive away, is that normal? can the water damage anything in the engine bay?

how do you guys keep your WRXs clean?

I go to Mt. View Carwash. I try to go when no one is around so I can dry the car off. I try to go to Kris' house to clean up but he kicks me out everytime I bring out the bucket of water and hose. I could go to Ben's and use his Honda cleaner which works excellent. I haven't been to the Lazer wash yet but I have tried the Rainmaker or whatever. It works okay but can't get the winter grime off. I usually don't take my cars to those automatic washes since I have bad luck with them. Something usually breaks off the car or rips something off.

During the winter, I use the touchless car washes. It is the easiest and warmest method. When it rains, water gets ingested into the hood scoop. It doesn't hurt the engine then and I'm sure the auto engineers designed the car with that in mind. Yes, it is normal for your car to steam after a car wash or when idling when there has been some water ingested. Smoke? Not normal. Unless, you have just changed you exhaust system and there is coolant and WD-40 burning off the engine. WHTDVL also has some GREAT stuff that they use on the motorcycles at Anchorage Cycle. It's a Honda product that cleans and polishes your car. It even takes off that brown road grime that car washes can't get off. During the summer, I use a mild detergent and hand wash. I finish drying the car with a soft chamois and occasionally wax the car with Zymol. Winslow

i usually go to the Rainmaker one on hillside, more gentle than the lazer wash one time i went in the wrong car wash next to the lazer wash the one with the spinning things. it sucked didn't even do as good as the touchless one. after a car wash i use Turtle Wax Extreme wax/cleaner, the one with Trilicone. works pretty good. when i want to do a quick wax job i use Dri-Wash n' Guard- "the water less car wash" thats what it says on the bottle. we have a big supply of it too. works just as good as other waxes and its a spray too.
But its too hard to keep our cars clean during winter, especially when it is warm and slushy.

sorry about this OT question but do the mudflaps help keep your car a little cleaner?
do you have to worry about your BOV in the car wash?

Touchless wash in the winter. Mountain View or hand wash in the summer.

Mudflaps do help keep road debris off the car plus it protects the paint. It's cheap protection for $50.

BOV in the car wash shouldn't be a problem. I have popped the hood after a wash and can't see any water in that area. The only time you should worry is if you high pressure was the engine bay.

touchless laser, do the $5 twice and then the $7 once! or just the $5 once and then the $7 once! that's good enough for winter!

The dri-wash works pretty good. I think it might even take off the road grime.

Wow, doing the touchless wash twice can get expensive.

Worth it, Yes. It's cheaper to rent the wash stall and do it by hand. I know I can do a better job than the Touchless wash. Pay me and I'll do it for you. Winslow

There is now way to get road grime off without touching the paint. Eventually, you would have to hand wash. When hand washing, you must use a mitt with deep piling. This will ensure the dirt is removed from the paint surface. Wash your car in small panels rinsing as frequently as possible. When drying, use a spot free rinse and a soft chamois. Winslow

haha

what kind of car wash soap do you guys use for hand washing?
I use the Meguiars one from Costco, the one that smells like baby shampoo. Works really good. I use extra soap so it won't scratch a lot with the wash mitt.

I'd like to try some of that Dri-Wash, too? I've used it before and like the convenience. It's handy when it's all you have. I use either the Turtle Wax soap or the Zymol brands. Don't use too much or like RawCode said "it'll strip the wax". Winslow
