Default lifters...which are better?

I have a 96 ej22 with hydraulic lifters. When I opened the cover one of the lash adjusters was missing.

My question is...I have an extra (newer...1997) parts motor which is equipped with solid adjusters...would it make sense to swap the entire rocker assembly?

Dose anyone have an opinion of which system is better? Did Subaru make the change as part of an upgrade or was it for other ($$) reasons?
