Default 2.5RS OBX Catback Exhaust decibel rating?

I recently got pulled over in the city of Chicago for having too loud of an exhaust? What kind of crap is that. I thought this exhaust was within legal noise specifications. I mean, when you wank it it's loud as hell but I think that's mostly because of the Cobb intake. I have the OBX catback exhaust (no I do NOT have headers). This is not even a turbo car.

My question is, can anybody send me a link that has the exhaust decibel rating on there to prove to these clowns that it's legal? I have had so many problems with Chicago police for the most ridiculous things. Ugh.

That can happen anywhere. It's probably going to be only acceptable for you to take your own sound measurements though. You can't really present them with a sound clip/video of another car with the same exhaust.

I dont know what made you think this thing would be in legal limits i bet in your state any aftermarket exhaust is prob illegal, just pay the ticket and move on

yeah, why did you think the OBX exhaust was within legal noise specs? did it say that for each state on the OBX documantation/website? i never heard of any aftermarket exhaust specifically saying they were legal in terms of dB output.

If you get unequal length headers, like borlas, you'll notice the sound isnt as high pitched and that's what gets the cop's attention...also it sounds way more badass.

I got pulled over for launching too fast from a red light (I drive an automatic RS!). I was almost flattered about it. The cops just pick you out sometimes. Probly just have to pay the fine and avoid that area of chicago....

No, fight this ****! Get a decibel meter, get a video camera, and film behind your car with the meter in view of the camera. Rev up the car and use that video as evidence to prove it's not over the legal limit.

Or don't even do that. Just fight it and make THEM prove your car is over the legal limit for noise.

I think you have to take the reading from a 45 degree angle from the exhaust tip at 6 or 12 inches away. I forget which one.

Really... I would think it would be the other way around. Having equal length headers will make your car sound more like a average tuner vehicle which would get their attention more then having borla's. I wonder if those 5.0 and GT mustang owners have the same problem as we do in terms of getting pulled over for excessive noise. Seeing as how its less likely to be a young early 20's guy driving it.

Leafs fan - gnar-kill meant what you are thinking, he just didn't punctuate correctly. But, what can you expect from someone who goes by "gnar-kill"?

leafs fan, it is just as bad for mustang guys. I got pulled over once for just looking over at an unmarked cop car wondering if he was a cop and moving to the left lane. traffic was slow and i was in 2nd gear with some flowmasters making there wonderful sound and as soon as i looked in my rear view to make sure i cleared traffic, he moved over behind me and pulled me over, said i was trying to race him. got 2 tickets, 55 in 45 and improper lane change. $150 for both and 4 points! 2car: 2000 gt flows only

What a dumbass. I guess standards to become a cop have gotten lower all over North America. They really need to focus on aggressive drivers, speeders and red light runners not how loud someones car is. Last time I checked no one lost their life due to loud exhausts.
