Default Should non US market cars be brought here?

Should Ford and Chevy and Honda and etc.....bring over their non US market cars to the US.

For example, but not limited to, the Ford Falcon, Holdens (and don't call them Pontiac's) BMW 123d

Are you kidding me? Ford is the company that's dumb enough to maintain and develop two separate focus platforms.

Aren't Skodas rebadged VWs?

Ford would be doing MUCH better financially if they had brought the Euro Focus over, and had taken US crash standards into account when designing the new Mondeo, so it could be brought over too.
GM is bringing quite a few of their Euro models over (Astra, etc.), and I think most Holdens would sell as well or better than Pontiacs.

If I remember correctly, in a recent issue of evo there was a american car going over to the European market (not sure which one). In order to appeal to European tastes they had to increase the quality of all the interior plastics, trim, nicer leather, thicker carpets, better switches, etc. Basically americans got the crappy version with cheaper equipment. What I don't understand is that doesnt it cost more money to have 2 seperate interiors with different quality standards? Why didn't they make the car as good as it could have been in the first place?

How about having car companies smart enough to develop global market vehicles and motors so that everyone can benefit form a safety and emissions point of view?

Full_Clip thinks that most car companies overestimate the intelligence of Americans.

For years american car companies have been trying to build the cheapest car/truck/SUV possible to maximize profits. Finally, some people are starting to realize that you can't continually sell crap and expect to make money on it. You'll notice that GM has recently redesigned several models with much better exterior panel fitment.

Cars that sell well over in Europe and East Asia may not sell well here, though there is a niche of people who would buy them. Cars "over there" tend to be a little strange, smaller, and often come equipped with diesel engines.

Americans rank power as a strong selling point for a vehicle they want to buy. Americans need to grow up.
