So I was looking into buying a 97 Legacy GT A/T for my winter beater but the one I was looking at has a couple problems. The Check engine light is on and it has a rough idle. I was wondering if anyone had any speculations of what could cause this. If I got test drive it I will take my code reader and find out what the code says.

Were I in your shoes, I'd just walk and find a different beater. Subaru love, but if the car's throwing CEL's on test drives? Cmon now.

well the price is kind of right. $1,800 with 153,000 mi. The body is excellent as well as the interior.

Take it to an autozone/advance auto during a test drive. When I worked there I did that once for a guy that was looking at a cadillac. And then the car wouldn't start after that haha!
