Angry door handle broken

Not really sure if this is the right place for this or not but here goes...

I go out to my car this morning and when i reach down to open the door, i noticed that the key cylinder was pushed back inside the door about an inch. When i pulled on the handle to open it, the handle worked but it also pulled the surrounding trim out some so that there is a gap between the trim and the door panel. Its possible that it has been like this for a few days and i just havent noticed because I always use the keyless entry and usually dont look at the handle as I open the door. Did someone try and break into my car, or did something just break on its own? To fix this, do I need to remove the interior panel and get at it from inside, or can i somehow pop the exterior trim piece off on the outside and fix it from there. I can snap some pics to show whats happened if it would be easier to understand.

I vote for someone tried to break in by punching the lock in... Seen it more than once - no clue on the fix...

Easy fix. Take the door card off on the inside. There is a bolt that runs through the door frame, through the lock assembly, and into the trim piece. Tighten that sucker up and it will pull everything back into place.

It's happened to me before.

Thanks, I was hoping it would be something easy like that and not something that was broken. I just didn't want to take the time digging into the door panel if it could be done simply from the outside. Also reassuring to know someone didn't try and break in. Looks like I've got a job to do tomorrow after work.
