Question What is this valve?

The other night I had been working on my car, and on the way home I stopped for gas. when I started my car after I filled up, it stalled immediately. My buddy and I popped the hood to look for a reason why it wouldn't stay running, and found this:

When we found it, the part that the hose attaches to was broken off in the end of the hose, and whatever genius was responsible had used electrical tape to hold it up to the spot where it should be. (I removed the tape to get a better look at it.)

My question is this: What is this valve called, and what does it do? I need to order a replacement, but I don't know what it's called, and I don't yet have a Factory Service Manual for this car.

Any help is appreciated!

I think that's a vapor purge control solenoid. Or something or that nature.

whats it attached to? A vac tube? sense line? whats that attached to? Use some common sense to see what its sensing/controlling/etc. Not trying to sound like a dick, just trying to help and maybe give you a pointer. On that note, I have no idea what that is. :-)

Yup.... that's what it is. Since it broke off, you have a vacuum leak. Plug the hose and don't worry about the sensor. Mine's been that way for years.

Thanks for the help guys!
I will check the cost on the valve, if it's too expensive I'll just do as you suggested.

just to correct things, that is the airconditioning assist valve IIRC. One side goes to the intake tube, pre throttle plate. The other side goes to the intake manifold, post throttle plate. It is energized when the A/C is commanded on and lets calculated air past the throttle plate to assist in idleing.

Thanks for the information. I've been driving my Z all summer but I'm about to get the ol wagon ready for the winter season, and this is on my list.

+1
Though I dont think the ECU and control it. It is a on/off only valve. If you take it apart the top is threaded into the body to a plunger. Kinda like a needle valve. Though I dont know if you can adjust idle with that because the ECU might send a higher PW.

May I say this is a good wire to tap for a Boost control solenoid if you have no AC because it has switched 12v on all times.
