Default Fit & Finish improvements?

I think it's fair to say that Subaru has always spent proportionally more on engineering than trim...
More pics as they relate to "fit & finish" (taken from my 1 week old '08 Legacy)

The following interior pics were taken to show the gap of two pieces that I feel should be a little tighter.

And some exterior shots showing the fit-up for the hood and trunk lid, comparing the left and right sides.

The gap on top of trunk lid where it meets the top of the rear quarters/ deck varies from one side to the other, as indicated by the cheapo tape measure.

Also note the appearance of the trunk lid's horizontal line (last pic). The left side near the tail lamp housing appears to fit nicely while the right side has the top half overhanging the bottom half.

I know, I am anal. But this has to be done right. Perhaps I got a "bad one." I will look at the vehicle on dealer lots more closely during my next visit (soon) - just out of curiosity.

Please pass this along! Thanks again.

Oh, and quoted for future reference:

Friday afternoon car, or what? My '07 has Lexus-like F&F compared to that.

Exactly those you have listed... plus Civic SI and Speed3.

Your car is that filthy and you complain about a tiny difference in the body and interior joint gaps. Its a Subaru not a Rolls.

Any chance that the Subaru Sales History spreadsheet at http://media.subaru.com, http://vocuspr.vocus.com/vocuspr30/N...ch&Cache=False will ever be updated again? Also, it no longer has a link to it from the Corporate Facts section of the web site.

It's called salt. Usually put down when there is snow/ ice. And being a black car that is driven every day- you will have that. Not to mention I have only owned it for a week.

Now, the fit and finish issues on the other hand... Do something right the first time. I would expect a lot of aftermarket parts to have this type of f&f, not factory installed by an employee with their own hands (unless they were blind).

Just because it isn't an expensive luxury car doesn't mean poor fit and finish is ok.

Kind of a random question but why is there no Subaru Owner's Day? Every year Mitsubishi throws a big event called MOD at HQ for Mitsu owners. It's pretty fun, tons of people show up, there are give aways and food. Plus they have focus groups to get opinions of upcoming products. Has SOA ever considered something similar? You might already do it, I do live on the other side of the country so news might travel slow.

They used to have the Subaru Challenge, but SOA decided it wasn't worth it to them to put on a fun event for their customers anymore so they stopped supporthing the program.

They rolled out the red carpet for us last year and the year before that.

Jan 15-18, 2009 is the next one.

BTW, to get a job or info for a job it helps if you spell correctly.
It's "opportunities" not ppertunities".

Good luck on the job search

for the love of f*** i don't need a job there. yea, spell check helps...ooops missed a word. better to be anal about something i'm paying for than to get worked up over criticism by a mod.

and this breed of moderation is a little on the annoying side, but eh. don't expect much from the afterbirth produced by nasioc.

if i was that serious about a job opportunity, i would have done the search.

Can we get back on topic, please?

SOA Blog, I noticed the WRB mica was nixed on the '09 Forester. Why is this? Saving it for a future special addition of the STi variation?

There is definately something wrong with your exhaust, get it in and have it inspected.

Both my Legacies (well, the wifes and my demo) are within 3mm of each other, the left side is either bent or not assembled properly.

The exhaust is adjustable where the muffler connects to the Y-pipe, it should be a 15 min fix at a dealer.

On a side note, the 08 SPT WRX Sedan exhaust will fit the 09 Forester XT perfectly.

Good to know. I was searching for any info I could on it, and Sport Compct Magazine is claiming to have gotten 50+ hp from just adding a K&N Typhoon Intake and the SPT Exhaust on their 2008 Subaru WRX.
