The 2008 WRX did not have a sunroof option either. First year models do not get sunroofs since FHI has to offset the cost of R&D and safety testing.

The WRX did not regain the sunroof that it lost after 2007 until 2009.

The STI never had a sunroof (04-10), except for the STi Limited in 2007. A sunroof adds additional weight, increases center of gravity, etc. (I personally love it).

Today, the 2011 and 2012 STI does have it as an option.

Not on the hatchback.

Let me simplify since I'm getting picked apart on tiny details. I have a 2009 WRX hatchback premium and I like my sunroof/moonroof a lot. I would like to purchase a 2012 STI hatchback but it does not have a moonroof, only the 4 door limited STI trim has one. Why?

Weight/rigidity is a valid point but why does the Limited has one then? And why does Canada have a hatchback STI with a moonroof (sportech package).

for sake of simplicity, to me sunroof = moonroof. or, the one we get on the WRX and limited STI.

Not only do Canadian 5-door STIs with the Sport-tech package have it now (pic), they had it in 2009.

Dear SOA,

What is the reason that the USA/Canada do not get the S206 NBR STI? I believe the car would sell extremely well and fast due to the small numbers it is made in presumably.

I have literally been drooling since I first saw pictures of it. I would buy one in a second if it were available in here. I know it would be considerably more expensive, but you are getting a lot for your money. The 6 pot brembos, carbon roof, raised performance in both engine and suspension, Recaro seating, 19" BBS wheels, vented front fenders and more.

Dear SOA Blog,

Does the BRZ have comparable headroom and legroom to the 2012 Impreza? (Which is FANTASTIC!) I'm 6'7" tall and unfortunately this primarily governs my decision when car buying.

You should look for the recent video about being too tall for a BRZ. The subject was 6' 3" and wouldn't recommended anyone much bigger than that to get the BRZ. Do a Google search.

When it's dang well good and ready!

I kid, I kid. I'm actually kind of interested in this car mostly because if I stay up here and the better MPG works out, I may be interested.

Plus I want that crazy orange color so I can annoy people!

With the BRZ, SOA finally brought from overseas the illusive "push to start" smart key option. It's in an inexpensive car so how about we start getting this in the rest of the lineup? Even Hyundais have it in cars cheaper than the BRZ!!!

Dear SOA,

Why do you hate us?!

http://translate.google.com/translat...p1.html&anno=2

There are just too many amazing cars throughout the world produced by Subaru to not have a single unit brought to the U.S. market. While you did "bring" the Legacy Spec.B and it sold out it was far from what the rest of the world received when it order the Spec. B. So, again I ask, "Why do you hate us and what can we do to repair this relationship?"

Here is a linked list of EVERY tuned STI model we are missing in case any of you were unaware:

http://www.sti.jp/e/product/previousmodel/index.html

The S206 and S206 NBR are the latest slaps in the face...Whats even worse is that we are not even allowed to buy the JDM/EDM/AUS performance parts without going through multiple chains and dealers each with their own mark up

I would ask any forum member to think of one other car company that ignores the U.S. and CAN market more than Subaru in terms of performance production models? Their ads project this 'Love' image non-stop. How they love their customers and will do most 'anything to make it right.'

Getting us access to this and future models would be a start. You could also get us some friggin' parts so we don't always have to go to the aftermarket.

Regards,
C.H.

Ford's new mission statement is One Ford. So no longer will there be Euro only cars. That is why we are getting the ST, whereas before we didn't.

Who cares about GM? I despise their cars. Ford has really picked up their socks the last few years. I would actually consider buying a few of their cars now. GM is still making the same crap and its hardly getting any better. Sure they have the Holden Commodore, but that was our GTO, which was crap. They have a few cars that are tuned and performance oriented, but they are still crap compared to offerings from everyone else.

They don't necessarily hate us. It's just that most SOA execs don't really know we exist yet. It's all about them Outbacks. That's where the money is. They advertised Outbacks in the '90s, and they sold. Now they're advertising Love, and Outback lovers are responding. Maybe someday the other models will get some love. Maybe even *performance* models (someday)!

(Though we'll still probably never get the Forester STI, Legacy STI (or Ts) or S403/4/5, Impreza S205/6/7, Exiga STI (or Ts). No, those models are reserved for all but their largest market! Only 2nd best for Subaru's biggest market!)

I just think they should introduce something cool to stir things up, like VW with the Golf R. It would definitely sell! My personal interest is invested in a S206 NBR

Yes, but would it sell ENOUGH? Bean-counters, man. It's all about them.

No doubt every Limited Edition Subaru would sell. Also, I thought there were emissions and such? If they had to change anything it wouldn't really be the JDM S206, etc. It would be JDM-like.

So basically we need more stuff like the 2010 STI SE and 2006 Legacy Spec B. I agree with stirring things up for Subaru's biggest market.

Of course I'm still irked that they don't just ship LGT's for dealers to keep on their lots and have 5MT Forester XT's... The problem is that they don't sell as well as they'd like.

It would probably behoove them to survey how many people in which reasons prefer manual transmissions and turbos and any variation of that setup. Maybe they could sell those specific trims in those regions with the most people that prefer manuals AND turbos?

We are a small minority here on the forums, which must be kept in mind constantly.

Subaru has one of the most loyal customer bases. I think it would go a long way with their customers if they were to offer a new "Halo" car as sort of a "Thank you" or what ever you want to call it.

I know emissions and what not change the car, but I am sure that they can still bump up the engine performance a tad, but what the STI is begging for right now is the Recaro's that every other market has, but us. Also I am a huge fan of the 6 pot Brembo's and suspension gubbins that the S206 NBR has. The STI is definitely a car that is going to be owned by enthusiasts, so why not take a page out of everyone else' book? BMW has the M3, but also the M3 GTS, Audi has the R8 V10, but also the R8 GT. Everyone produces a low volume halo version of their halo cars. I just think it would be nice if Subaru could share the wealth in North America.

Agreed. I'm honestly waiting for them to reach their goal of 1 million units sold in a year. At the point I'll be like, "Build it and even more will come!"

I'm just curious to see where there head is at? It is almost impossible to find a 2011 STI in Canada and I'm sure they are few and far between in the USA as well. So it isn't a question of whether it will sell or if it is accepted. It obviously is a huge success. They just need to help cater to the enthusiast. The enthusiast may be a niche market, but the STI is seen as an all round sort of car, where the enthusiasts modify it for performance sake. If they release an enthusiast model with upgraded suspension and engine.

I assume you are joking about GM and have not really looked at Ford's projections/plans for the future. Both of those companies offer the most powerful models here in the U.S.. The only thing we do you get are the super hatch models 'coming in the future' and some diesel variants.

Someone also mentioned Vauxhall. Since they have never really been in the North American market they would not count.

I think all of the points brought up are correct and justified. What still is confounding is why we are not even allowed to order JDM/World market parts. It is like they believe we are incompetent and not suitable to order performance parts. Like every other company they would be immediately absolved of any emissions issue if 'we' were the ones to install the performance parts we are missing. All they would need to do is mark 'For Off-Road Use Only.'

My wife and I are planning for a large vacation in the future, maybe I can convince her that we need to visit Japan just so I can see for myself if this frustration is justified. Regardless, and sub-8 minute Nurburgring lap in a factor Subaru is an awesome step. I am sure we will get some hand me down parts from it by 2015

Best,
C.H.

You can order them, just not through a US Subaru dealer. I ordered a part directly from a UK dealership. You can also check out http://www.japanparts.com/. If you select Subaru or STI under the "manufacturers" pull-down menu, you'll find JDM OEM parts. I assume there are a few other websites where you can do this, but japanparts is the only one I've looked at.

Hope that's helpful if there's some specific upgrade you'd like, or if you'd just like to have fun browsing!

(I agree it'd be good to have more options here in the US, though!)

No, I'm not kidding about GM. Look at Vauxhall and Holden. Vauxhall has been owned by GM since around 1930, they develop great cars. It's a joke that we don't get them here. While we get an occasional port it's usually short lived (Monaro and Commodore died with Pontiac).

Ford may have PLANS, but that's all they are. They've been "planning" to bring the Focus ST for over 10 years now. They even gave us a watered down version thinking we wouldn't notice. What about the Falcon? No plans for that. I'll believe it when I see it on the dealer's lot.

And now that you bring it up, yes, all the diesel options from both companies.
