How would the interior size of the 2010 Legacy, specifically, rear leg room and overall shoulder room compare to the current Accord and Camry? What I'm looking for is a description something like "closer to the Camry, a tad smaller, but not as big as the Accord" or "splitting the difference between the 09 Legacy and the current Accord/Camry". Or comparisons to other relevant models as well (Mazda 6, etc.).

this is where i have the biggest problem. why be just like the others? if the others make a crappy interior does this mean Subaru is going to follow?
i'm not asking nor expecting real wood with gold accents but just one item like a soft touch dash can set the car one notch above the others so they sell even better. how much more would it have cost per car?

when i shop and compare i just don't look at the $$ alone. i would like something i feel good in. it's the same feeling i get in the drivetrains when i test drive different cars. the test drive is what always brought me back to subaru along with the looks, the price, and the reliabliity. you took some of the "looks" and good interior feel away which made it easier to decide. i just hope the ride makes up for what is lost (to me).

more than most people are willing to pay at our price elasticity.

I think it's more a case of that item—along with all the other deleted items. It's the sum total of all the MIA items is causing many of us to be a bit upset.

As I've said many times the improvements to the car are great. There's no argument from me on that aspect.

too bad since the STI case is so much stronger.

Can you give us a locations and dates for auto shows where the 2010 Legacy will be appearing in the future? Specifically, I'm interested in Colorado.

To be clear, I don't think any of us really care about 4vs2 when it comes to the heated seats (personally I'm fine with 2-stage, I usually have heated seats on full or off). It's just that it's a symptom of a greater problem with the Legacy moving down-market.

The real losses, IMO, are the folding mirrors (a necessity in some places), the turn-signal mirrors (a safety feature, touted as such by Subaru themselves), the electroluminescent gauges (one of the nicest "wow" touches with the BL/BP...remember how they were advertised by Subaru back in 2005-2006?), and the rear LSD (from what I have heard, the VDC is no replacement).

For some of us, the things the new car has gained (very little, really) doesn't make up for the features lost. And Subaru could have had it both ways by offering these features only on the higher-level trims.

Yep... This is not the STI or spec. B 6MT. It's Subaru's new "economy" 6MT.

Well, that can be a good thing if it causes your product planners to go back and rethink the vehicle content.

SOA_Blog, are the puddle lights as seen on Tribeca and Forester going to be available on Outback and Legacy as well? Why doesn't the Impreza have them? They are cool, functional, and are actually a great safety feature as well as they really light up a dark road if you ever need to get out for whatever reason.

I don't know. Impreza is of course cost. As for safety, that'd have to be a very deep puddle.

Seems it'd be more likely that the puddle lights will disappear from the 2010 Tribeca and Forester. They add complexity, you know.

Yeah, but fewer engines on Tribeca, so possible build variations down by a factor of 3 to begin with...

ps - SOA Blog is at home sick today, so nothing better to do than play around with you guys...

Well...

I've never been in a situation where folding mirrors were a necessity. I also doubt the validity of turn-signal mirrors as being very impactful in the realm of safety (I'd be happy if people signalled at all...). I always think guages look cool when I first see them, and then after 6 months it's the same-ol'. As far as the last one, I have no opinion.

These seem to be very small deletions to the setup to keep costs down, IMO.

What has the new legacy gained, anyhow?

Size and weight.

6-speed manual transmission (though it should be noted this is not the STI's 6-speed).

The highest trim levels have auto-up driver's windows (though I'm still unclear on whether that is 3.6R-only or if it's available on the premium package for all the models, some of the text I've seen has been contradictory).

There is now a reverse camera, iPod input, and bluetooth speakerphone option available with the navigation system.
