Default BMW Ice Racing this Sunday 2/24

Anyone else going to this? I just registered and am going up with my buddy in his 335xi...should be a good time! Any car can register, and you don't need to be a member of SCCA or their BMW club either.

It is all day on Sunday, up by Bristol,NH. Heres the link!

It would be AWESOME to get some more subies to go, so tell your friends and sign up!

Is this happening for sure? All I've seen is emails indicating it -might- happen.

I don't remember getting an email saying it's on yet. Last one I got was "The 2008 Ice Racing season has gone from an extremely favorable start -- the lake actually froze over before Christmas (but unfortunately reopened) -- to very difficult"

on the 13th

It's far from certain at this point, online registration is for the season and makes things much easier in the morning. The weather is looking good for Sunday though.

You don't need to worry about getting more Subarus, half the cars there will be Subarus. Please follow Stan's requests and drive very slowly and respectfully anywhere near the lake. And be prepared to be frustrated if you don't have snows.

I also got the impression from Stan's last email that we may not be on Newfound Lake for this event. We have used other lakes in the past and the previous access point to Newfound is now gone. I'm sur Stan will send out an update on Saturday.

Got an email this morning, it's on for Sunday.

Just my luck, the first ice race of the season and I'm swamped with papers and homework. Maybe next weekend!

If there is one to miss, you are probably better off missing the first one. The most people show up, and it is the first of the season. Stan and the others do an excellent job, but the first one is always a bit more "bumpy" than the rest.

Thanks for that. Now I feel better about not going to this one. I had a bunch of things planned for the weekend. I'll make sure to be ready for the next one... Stupid Power Steering Pump! You get fixed now!!!

Here's the email I got this morning:
Dear Boston Chapter Member,

-- Boston Chapter Ice Racing Bulletin for February 21, 2008 --

Amazingly, the ice is ready, and we are going to try to find a way to sort through the myriad of difficulties that have arisen. Tentatively, we will be Ice Racing on Sunday, February 24th! Remember, a final decision is not made until noon on Saturday.

PLEASE NOTE:

1. The directions are WRONG. The location is WRONG. I will be sending out directions to our new location tomorrow.

2. The entry fees are WRONG. They will be $20 for Members and $25 for non-Members.

3. Online registration is now open on the Boston Chapter website. General details on Ice Racing are also available there:
http://www.boston-bmwcca.org/events/...px?EventID=367

4. Pre-Registration via the online registration system is REQUIRED, no exceptions.

5. I am still sorting through all the new tires, so don't be shocked if you are re-Classed when you arrive on Sunday. The list of Super Snow Tires on the website is not up to date. The Rule on classifying them is.

more to follow!

See you on the ice!

Stan Jackson Jr.
Boston Chapter BMW CCA
Ice Racing Coordinator

You'll get sideways and backwards on snow tires. All season/summer/crap tires means getting stuck just about everywhere. Or if there's not much snow gliding hundreds of feet off course.

the first rule of ice racing is - you do not talk about ice racing. the second rule of ice racing is - you DO NOT talk about ice racing...

...and the eighth and final rule, if this is your first day at ice racing, you have to race.

I'm working so I'll be missing it

as for all seasons- you just have to know how to massage them. I never got stuck with the re92s, sometimes, I'd even beat snow tire times

yes, passengers can ride. We used to use them for extra ballast

Yes, as many as you want and no helmet is required (if im thinking of the right club). Oh and they usually have a practice course!

Don't worry, they'll be 100 drivers there, you'll get to wait in line just like an autocross.
