wtfbbqsce happened to my wipers?

ok so im driving on the freeway, no crazy high speeds or anything, just 50 ish. so i turn on my wipers cause it is just pouring and i need to be able to see the road. well wouldnt you know? i guess asking the wipers to work properly on this p.o.s. car is just asking too much. so they start wiping, but they go too far on my windshield and they get stuck on the cheap plastic thing that the antenna comes out of. so i open the window and unhook the ****ers. turn off the wipers and try to drive that way. well guess what, i cant see ****. so i am forced to turn them on again. and wouldnt you know, the same thing happened again. so i fix it again. mind you im 3 hours away from home so i cant just pull over and get a tow. so i drive to my house, sometimes turning the wipers on sometimes not, but now my paint marrd on the a pillar which i hope i can have my paint guy rub out.
so to make a long story even longer, i get home and look at my wipers, car turned off. they are fine except that i can take the wiper arm and move it about 4 inches up and down before it stops due to the strain on the motor. keep in mind while i move it by hand its not moving the motor. so wtf is up? any ideas cause im certainly open to suggestions.

There is a little plastic circle clip that covers a bolt on the wiper assembly that needs to be tightened down more. This happened to me once that led to my wiper's arm going crazy.

well. i just checked that, got the socket set out and those nuts are tight. they are not goin anywhere. i even took off one of them and yanked on the wiper arm, it didnt even move off its bolt.
