06 2.5i vs 07 2.5i

Guys, I know i must be nut to ask this question... today, i came to subie dealer ask if the spt muffler will fit my car (07 2.5i) coz i saw the catalog said it fit 06 2.5i ... he said "NO".

Are they the same? i think 06 and 07 are pretty much the same though

Get the 05 STI axle back. It sounds pretty good and looks better.

The 97-05 Imprezas use a completely different exhaust than the 06-07. But you're correct, the 06 & 07 are identical.

That said, the SPT is a waste of money. I'd go with a used STI axleback.. that will get you a little more volume, be super cheap.. as CF-Ninja says it looks better. Whatever you do, don't put a loud exhaust on it. The equal length OEM header on the 06-07s is good for some power, but sounds awful.

I'm going to disagree with the STi axleback

I personally think it sounds raspy. Try the classifies for something used if you don't want to sped and arm and a leg on a muffler. I got my prodrive for $160 shipped instead of $400 some new. Sounds baller.

Search YouTube for some sound clips on many exhausts and see what ones you like the best.

Note that cmiovino probably has either the stock unequal length header or a Borla unequal length header.

Be sure to take note as to whether they have an unequal length header (UEL) or an equal length (EL).

guys, i'm not driving STI
I've tried magnaflow before, sound so loud... and actually lot of ppl pay attention to me, I've got ticket coz I were driving 82 in 70mph zone (as everyone does), but only me got caught... (other drivers drove SUV...)

Not to mention, sometime there are some nut WRX try to piss me off with his car though... (did i do anything? my muffler did the whole thing) sound freaky

What they mean is the stock STi exhaust is an upgrade on a 2.5i(ie: bigger piping) and less expensive than other aftermarket exhausts, not that you have an STi.

I have the stock 05 STI axle back on my car. Picked it up cheap from a guy on here. It doesn't really sound raspy at all, doesn't make it much louder either. It just lowers the tone a little bit.

Heard a million sti AB on 2.5i's, and they sound like dooky (you guys all know they really do sound the same as the stock exhaust if not more "tin can" like) With that said, if you plan on keeping the car awhile get a Stromung(or similar) AB, and save up for a mid pipe and unequal length headers when they become more readily avaliable for our cars. This is what I am in the process of now, and my Stromung CBE sounds great even without the header change yet.

Yes, they are the same. I am one of the few who has an 07 WRX axelback on my 2.5i. I needed something right away because the sorry excuse of a muffler they come stock with had to go....ASAP.

Better look, won't do much to the sound or performance. Good luck.

The 97-05 model cat-back systems will work on your 2.5i with some modifications. I was running a axle back muffler from a 03 on my 2.5i. If you want something that looks better than stock go with the WRX or STI axle back, if you want some noise use something else. I have upgrade since the 03 axle back and I now have a Prodrive round tip axle back. Sounds Good!

Only time you get a "tinny" sound is for about the first 5 minutes on a day below 15 degrees.

Nobody is going to make an unequal length header to fit the 2.5i. Don't wait for one.

The current Borla headers fit, you'll just need a 97-05 cat pipe and to extend the rear O2 sensor to get it to work. There are several threads on this in the Naturally Aspirated forum.

yea, I am also the same, but I have the 04 dual-tip. the single tip does sound better with no load on the engine, but my 04 dual tip also looks unique on the 07, and is a bit less raspy with a load [or just moving] than the single. and the stock exhaust on these 07s stock....WTF Subaru, lol. peashooters FTL

thanks, my car sounds like a Honda odd how you used MY vid, lol. trust me, under load it sounds nice, and the STi axleback IS deeper under load, but EXACTLY the same free-revving on these 2.5i's. either look for the Prodrive/COBB axleback, or save money like me and spend $free-160 for a WRX/STi axleback. lucky me, I paid $55 for my "Honda" exhaust and it still sounds nice once it was broken in [owner only had 4k miles on axleback or somethnig when he took it off] it was tinny, but now at 23k miles [that vid was at ~16-18k] it is deeper now, especially when running just above 40% throttle
