Default spittin' and spudderin' '00 legacy

i have done multiple searches, but have only found two possible solutions to my problem. neither worked.

my dad's '00 legacy gt sedan has been pausing/chugging/hesitating lately. it started very intermittently while on the highway, and only would hesitate for about 2 seconds. lately, though, it has been getting a ton worse to the point it barely stays running at idle. when accelerating, it chugs pretty bad, and feels like it is loosing 100% power transfer while the the gas pedal is pressed until it "catches" and resumes accelerating. (feels like a car running out of gas)

i have changed the plugs and fuel filter. i have been running premium gas lately, but that isn't helping any. this has been happening for about the last 4 tanks of gas, and just took a turn for the worse midway through this last tank, so i really don't think it is due to a bad batch of gas.

any thoughts on anything else i can try before i have to take it in? the cel has been on for about 2 months, and was throwing P0420. i changed all the o2 sensors, and a week later took it in to the dealer to get it checked, who of course said the code was for a bad o2 sensor. they reset the cel, but it was back on 2 days later. the car ran perfectly before/after i changed the sensors, and ran fine up until about 3 weeks ago.

why help would be appreciated.

Have you checked the connectors on the plug wires? I was having some issues with mine last spring and it turned out that one of the wire ends had corroded from water getting past the boot. Ran much better afterwards.

Also, if the PD420 is going off after your O2 sensor has been replaced, it's entirely possible that the cat(s) are not working properly and may be clogging. See if a shop can do a backpressure test to see if this is the case.
