The 2004 STi didn't have auto HVAC though so you shouldn't need auto HVAC to make the outside temp work I would think if you are swapping a 04 Sti cluster in.

this is awesome news!

I am gonna go check the wiring diagram on an 04 STi to see whats going on back there... perhaps its a cluster difference??

post back soon.

Ok the wiring diagram for the 04 STi shows that it does infact have auto HVAC, however the regular impreza supposedly ALSO has the outside temp display, I looked at the diagram and its the same diagram minus 3 connections without the auto HVAC...

the pinout goes as follows:
all pin locations are @ combination meter unless noted otherwise
C10 - M/B fuse #2 aka battery power
C7 - F/B fuse #13 aka switched power
B12 - only shows a connection W/HVAC connects to A11 on AHVAC module
B11 - connects to one side of temp sensor (also connected to B9 of AHVAC module if equipped)
B8 - connects to the other side of temp sensor (also connected to B17 of AHVAC module if equipped)
C6 - ground

hope this info helps

Ok I'm confused. Isn't auto HVAC the same as climate control? My buddy's STi had the same HVAC as my 2004 WRX....I think? Haha

I have a quick question. For the rear diff. light, that is the one you have to ground the wire to make the light go off. Can you just connect that wire with a wire tap to the ground that goes to the cluster instead of trying to find somewhere else to ground it? I am doing a 06 STi in my RS w/ 02 swap and would like to get everything as close to perfect as possible. Also I have a WRX dash, so all of my wiring is for an 02.

Thanks,
Anthony

yes they do. what do you think the AUTO on the fan speed if for? it changes the fan speed to what ever temp you set the car to.

Okay so i just read all the posts in this thread, and am some what confused.

How do you get the ABS light to work properly on an 05 sti cluster in an 04' wrx? some say it just works, others say you need a reverese circuit?

*Confused*

Just thought I would post this here. I just did a 06 cluster in my swapped RS (which has all 02 wiring because of the dash) and everything is actually working good. I did not have to tape over anything. The DCCD light does not come on, neither does the rear dif. temp. I do have a high beam light on because I HID's which means no high beam and my outside temp actually reads a temp. but obviously not the right one. I thought I read somewhere that if it had a temp displayed that you can get it to work, but not if it had the -- where the temp should be. Could be wrong. Just wanted to know if that was true. All I did was cut the 2 wires (A9 and B28) mentioned and trimmed the tabs and everything worked. Anyone have any ideas on how to get the high beam light off? Also just to let everyone know, the connector that goes on the left side of the cluster, that has the two extra pins. I put the connector in so that the 2 pins that would not have any wires going to them on the inside part of the connector (closests to the middle). Could that be why I did not have to put any tape over lights or make any other grounds? Just thought I would ask.

Thanks for the write up.

the connector that is missing pins will still only fit in one way, the clipt hat holds it in will not allow it to be over the other side.

and as far as teh temp gauge giving you a reading all that means is that you HAVE a temp sensor already. --- means you do not, or it is not plugged in. So far no one here has gotten it to work me and coolrex are working on getting that working, but both of us have bigger projects at the moment... scooby mods has a write up on how to get it too work but a few people here have said that it didnt work for them.

Jon
I'm 99% sure they started using the reverse circuit in 05 so you should need one.

But just plug it in! see if the light works... if it doesn't check up above i've posted a very rough description of what you need to do in a post on page 3.

basically you add a relay to reverse the voltage the cluster sees.

Cool. Was just checking. I was not aware that I had a that kind of temp sensor already. I am going to play aroung with it a little and see if I can get it to work right. I will let you guys know. Any ideas on the high beam light?

I dunno about the temp gauge giving a value means you have a temp sensor. My car is a 2004 and there is NOTHING on it for outside temp other than the ambient temp sensor in the MAF. So why would Subaru put a sensor on a car that won't be using it?

Not sure, it does make sense what you are saying. Guess I'll just have to wait till we can get it working with out the auto hvac and go from there. I am really more worried about getting the high beam light off right now anyway.

Default 2005 STI cluster into 2006 WRX

Ok just did the swap. (2005 STi cluster --> 2006 WRX)
I dont know if I am just lame or just cant see, but I read through this thread several times and thought I had everything sorted out.
First of all:

I did have to trim the (A) connector as indicated for it to fit.
I thought I was clipping C-9 to eliminate the buzzer but after cutting and then having to solder 2 wires that I thought were C-9, I realized C-9 is the orange wire with the white stripe (This is what I could not find anywhere in this thread).

My outside temp appears to be working.
Cruise does NOT work. (I did not move the required wires).
DCCD light is ON.
Rear Diff. Temp light is ON.
Buzzer is now OFF.

What I don't think I will be able to live with is NOT being able to dim the cluster, this is a deal breaker for me.

I do have the cluster wiring harness from the wrecked 2005 STi that I pulled the cluster from, and I am almost tempted to try and swap those harnesses to see if the illumination control will work.
Does anyone have any thought on this?
Has anyone been able to make everything that is supposed to dim, dim? just like the stock cluster did?
Remember, this is a 2006 WRX with a 2005 STi cluster.

Thanks.
P.S. mine is NOT a TR, I do have auto climate control.

Does anyone have the gauge of the wire the cluster uses?

Hold on here. Why can you just have the wires for the illumination go together (a +12v and a +5 a parallel circuit volts doesn't matter) then have them go to the illumination switch then have a 5v resistor to reduce the volts back down to 5v for the one wire and have 12V for the other? I am just thinking here, I don't have my wiring diagrams nor the voltages yet. I get my cluster tonight and so I have to run to radioshack to get all this stuff. If anyone has a wiring diagram can you PM me? I am at work and it is sloowww.

Ideas, comments? I got the rest of the day to figure this jazz out.

Alright update on just diagrams. On the STI what does pin A1, A4, & A8 do? Does the WRX even have a purpose for ping A3?

Team Scream: You should be all set with the outside temp if you do have the climate control. As far as I know there is no way to turn off the DCCD light so either 1) get a 6spd! 2) leave it alone, or 3) Open it up and black tape it. Turning off the rear diff light is easy, you just need to ground the wire for it, I will be posting a diagram later so you can figure out which one from that.

And as far as illumination adjustment, hit the trip reset button 2-3 times It will read ILL5 now turn the rev limiter set stalk till you are happy!

RallyIt07: stay tuned when i get home tonight I will post a diagram for you. Also I am pretty sure that this resistor business will not work as the STi cluster dims by sending out its own voltage through a potentiometer and then back to the cluster. While i suppose this MIGHT in theory work, I think it would be tricky at best. Additionally I find having seperate control of the illumination as I made my dash all red, and i find having the dash at full illumination and the cluster at ILL3 is the right balance.

In bold above....just getting a 6 speed won't do jack swat....I have one. You have to have the OEM DCCD setup which isn't a simple swap.

holllaaaaaa

Got my cluster in, for the b4 pin, I cracked the case open and soldered the wire to the b4 pin and ran it out the casing. I tried to solder it to C6 but when you assembly the case it too tight of a squeeze for an great solder connection. So I just would a blade connector on it and then grounded it to the c6 wire on the outside. Works great. But does anyone know how to get the DCCD light to turn off?

sure it will, itll mean that that little light that says DCCD aint lying no mo'!.. (I mean its there...) granted your DCCD indicator lights still wont work (nor will your dccd for that matter without a controller), but i never said that they would now did I.

I do not see a way to turn it off in the wiring diagram, just either put black tape over it, or gently seperate the front cover of the gauges enough to slip some electrical tape over the backside.

ProdriveD.
DUDE YOU ROCK!
Thanks for the tips on the illumination, that works perfectly!
Outside Temp works perfectly.
I dont have cruise control which I dont care about.
And the DCCD light is on.
As far as the 6 speed, I have the rest of the 2005 STi sitting here ready for that very 6 speed swap you speak of!!!!!!
Will be doing the swap in a couple of weeks.
Just waiting on the last of the upgrades to get here (bushings and such).
Thanks again for the help bro.

hi all I have a stupid question for you all. I did my cluster swap and my outside air temp doesn't work which I knew would happen. I got all the parts I need according to the DIY on scoobymods except that cluster pin. I have no junk yard near me and I am assuming the pin comes from the wire end not the cluster end. I don't wanna have to buy an entire harness for that one stupid pin. Could anyone please help. What can I do or where can I get this pin from?
