Default Snell Helmet for Winter Autocross?

I was looking for a helmet for the upcoming winter autocross, and I found an open face helmet with a Snell M95 rating. I am pretty sure that the "M" stands for motorcycle.

Does anyone know for sure what rating the Winnipeg Sports Car Club requires to run in Autocross events? I tried contacting them via e-mail off thier web site, but no one ever gets back to me.

I would hate to buy a helmet and not be able to use it.

It would be pretty safe to assume their helmet requirements for that are the same as for a regular auto-x, being snell 90 or newer, SA or M rated.

Aren't the SA90 & M90 too old for competition use now? They would be 11 years old now. To my knowledge, I thought they could only be 10 years old or LESS. I could be wrong.

I don't think you could even get a new helmet now with the 90 or M90 rating unless it was really old stock. I am more concerned if they will accept the "M" rating. I know that Snell is kind of leaning more toward the cars with thier rating system. Different impact requirements having your helmet hit the roll cage versus landing on flat pavement.

I wish someone from the WSCC would return an e-mail.

btw: this is our club helmet. It's a snell 2000. It's from HJC and is called the CL5. It costs a little over $100. from that place on Main Street. They give WSCC members a discount as well.

Oddly enough M does not stand for motorcycle. M, in that rating system merely refers to the tests it must pass. The other system which rates them as SA, I always assumed to be special application but apparently it's the same as M, just a designation for a set of tests. The main difference between the two is that an SA rated helmet must be lined with a non-burning non-melting material. Cooking the helmet liner to your face is not cool.

Sorry Shaun...that's it!

It's the same one for us as it is for WSCC. It's a good helmet though.

Default Passengers are welcome...

As long as they too sign the waiver, wear a helmet & seatbelts.

It's still very much a go.

The last email I got was that it would start at noon. The main organizer is out of town this weekend but he said he would let me know next week when he gets back the final details.
