Default ea82t into an ej18

I've been looking into engine options for me old ej18 impreza hatch. One option that I was looking at was the ej22t, which I've heard can be run off of the ej18 ecu. is this also true of the loyale ea82? compatibility issues? thanks

Bad idea. Cracked heads & blown head gaskets galore.
EA82t = saddest Subaru engine ever, EA82t FTL.

^ agreed. the EA82t is definitely the crappiest subaru motor ever made!

also, the EA series uses a different bellhousing pattern, which can't be mated to an EJ trans (can go the other way though....). completely different management. the EAs have a distributer.....

/\/\/\/\/\/\

basically any EJ engine you can find will fit and possibly run off the 1.8's ECU(maybe not perfect depending on the displacement).

Slight thread jack, but I want to clarify this. If I have an EA82 and 'procure' an EJ22, it'll bolt right up to the existing tranny? I can swap engines and keep my d/r? That would make me very happy

bolt right up......no. the bellhousings are different. but it works out with an EJ engine and EA trans, there's room to use an adapter plate. but won't work the other way around.
