Hi all,
I'm waiting on a set of used TE37's and they all have a small amount of curbage... I want to know if anyone has tried repairing curbage themselves? I live in the MIDDLE OF NOWHERE, so finding places is a effort in futility.. I could imagine if I could build a "spinner" for the wheel, mount it solid and work the rash with a file to get the bulk, then some good paper to smooth it all out, it wouldn't be so bad... they will end up getting painted regardless, cause they aren't going to match anything, they are actually limited edition blue, but my RS isn't WRB anymore, so I'm going to have to bite the big one and change the color... Anyone..

I had wondered if you could repair wheel damage - especially damage to the lip of the rim - by building up the area with a weld bead, and then shaping it back down by grinding / sanding / milling

Ok, so, i'm thinking I can do this... My GC and my Pontiac Vibe share 5x100, the wheels will fit...
So, my thought and plan is to pull a front wheel from the vibe, mount the TE37, start the vibe and let it idle, put it in gear and let it spin.... Start with a file, to take down the deep stuff, and work myself into paper... then take it to someone for paint... thoughts.. |

Are you sure you want to paint over that blue? Man I would mock them up on the car before I painted over the limited edition color. If you must change it, I would use a dremel wheel and polish/ light grind the scuffs on the lip. Then wet sand the lip and prepare it for paint.

i'd polish the lip on them. that might look hot. worst case you can paint them black or red
on the chrome wheels. sorry there isnt really anything you can do since it a plating and not a paint. best advice i can tell you is to lightly file the area to get the hard edge off and get some clear nail polish to keep it from spreading/ peeling |

I'll be honest, if you ever want to resell those wheels, id be better to leave them as-is vs. a DIY job. The most I ever bothered to do on rashed wheels was to sand down the burrs and just paint it over. Most of the times you won't really see it until you're 5 feet away from the wheels.
Where in MI are you? There's a few places around SE MI...heck even on the SW around GR and central MI there should be some wheel repair places... |

I got them to 90%, which is all that I cared about for my experiment. I have a whole new set here that I am going to start on shortly... two of the wheels have bent lips and everything.. I'm going for a 100% repair on these. -- Dave |

I think you would be much better off with the jig/vice method overall man... aluminum breaks before it bends (much) heating would be something to conside as well.. then cryo treating.. to bring the strength back..
