It seems that whenever we get snow, people start crashing like lemmings jumping off a cliff. I wonder why? You would have thought that Alaskan's of all people would know better......
And why does everyone feel compelled to rubberneck? Did anyone see the car that had flipped over on the frontage road by 68th? If you were southbound on the NS, then you probably couldn't have missed it, as you were probably going (not by choice) about 20 miles an hour like EVERYONE ELSE who slowed down to get a better look. We get an awful lot of accidents on the NS outside our office (68th and Frontage.) What is it, I wonder, about the the strip of highway between Dimond and Dowling that invites so many accidents?

It seems like a little bit of snow can turn a perfectly good driver into an idiot. I passed 7 cars stacked up behind an idiot on the NS by Potter Marsh the other day (where it's 4 lanes). Of course, the other drivers were probably saying "look at that idiot passing us, what's up with that?" What really tweaked me was that they all stayed behind even though the road split into 4 lanes.
Just follow the basic rule of motion "fast in the fast places and slow in the slow places" and you won't do too much damage. |

I don't think I go fast. I seem to come up on people that are brain dead. I move to the other lane and it becomes the slow lane. Never ending cycle. Sometimes......no, all the time I wish I had some sort of missile to blow up these idiots. Maybe its just me but I keep seeing trucks in the ditch all the time. They're the ones passing me at 50 mph on Tudor with ice.

Most people don't even undrstand the dynamics of a car on a slippery surface. "The tail end just came around! I didn't even turn the wheel!"
Chances are that they had the wheel turned a little bit when the hit the brakes. Once they hit them, it shifts all the weight to the front of the vehicle making the front very sensitive to steering, and the rear more likly to slide. So now the rear kicks out and boom, crashed car. I myself use of throttle oversteer, or on-brake oversteer a lot of the time during the winter. Subarus are rather balanced so they are VERY sensitive to weight distribution. Here is another thing to thing about. A lot of the Subaru accidents I have see on this board are from off-throttle oversteer. They come into a corner too fast and panic so they either let off the gas suddenly (bad), or mash the brakes (even worse). Which results in the sudden unbalance of the car and woosh, say hi to the rear of your car. I guess I have been reading too many books on how to race drive... heheh I have been trying to get ready for the auto-X season.RawCode |

Maybe its just me but on the freeway entrances that loop around I sometimes feel the rear end wants to slide out. I like that on a wide and flat area but on a loop theres no sides, just a drop off into the snow.

AK_2002_WRX: That guy hit a lamp post?! That's hilarious
![]() I see that Maza 626 is still in the middle of the New Seward Highway. Looks like they got hit pretty hard. And I almost had to cry (not really) when I saw that Audi A4 that had a losing battle with the Explorer on the New Seward. Today, I was waiting to turn onto Dimond from the mall (I HATE the mall!), and within the same light I saw two completely seperate parties changes lanes in the middle of the intersection. Do people not know that that is illegal to changes lanes in an intersection, or do they just not care? ![]() Also today, I had some *#$%ing !@tch change lanes in front of me with almost no notification. She signalled after she started moving, and was only about 2 feet in front when she did so. If only I was driving my Scout..... ![]() ....hit a lamp post....![]() |

I suggest you go on and destroy those trucks. Even in 4wd you should be able to annihilate them. Unless they have studded tires. Traction is the key. You should annihilate all trucks that rev on you.

Those trucks were probably mad because there's a little white car that annihilates them at every chance at the lights.

It seems like the stupidest and slowest drivers are Tudor rd all the time. All weekend I have been behind these morons. Its like 45 down Tudor and I look down at my speedo and lo and behold it says 33mph. Cmon it didnt even snow all weekend and there was pavement there!
