Default Stock 2002 2.5RS 5speed Transmission

Does anyone how high you can rev an engine with a stock RS 5 speed transmission without it (the transmission) breaking? I have just recently had an STI block and forged internals installed (all runnning na for now). I have a Hydra comming for engine management and want to raise the rev limit, but don't want to break the transmission because I cannot afford a new one until later in the year. Thanks.

Dude just goto World One have them put in the RA gears in your transmission and put it on credit. That would prolly cost less than a whole new tranny. I would be more worried about the clutch than anything else.

Uuhh..NO! Terrible idea.

And this is in the wrong forum. Try asking in the Transmission forum.

RPMs have nothing to do with breaking a tranny. Power and mis-management of power do.

The tranny can pretty much take as many RPM's as you can throw at it, its the engine that will have issues over revving.

You make it sound like a bad thing.... It will eventually have a turbo, all I need is exhaust manifold, up- pipe, TBE, injectors, larger fuel pump and a re-tune of the Hydra.

i think a stock RS 5 speed trans will be short lived with 300hp+ pushing it not because of revs, but torque/power. you better be absolutely perfect with shifts and silky smooth with power delivery until you are ready to get a new trans. id see what the drivetrain forum can tell you about this sti motor/rs trans combo.

Well, no stock trans will last forever but you'd be surprised when it comes to the rs tranny. It actually has a bit of an advantage over the wrx tranny with it's 4.11 final drive.
