Default NIH Clinical Center Gingerbread House

Hello,

My office has entered the NIH's annual Gingerbread House Contest with an entry of: A Nightmare Before Christmas. This is done every year to foster team building, to bring awareness to the food drive for the Children's Inn, to for kids on campus to come and enjoy. The Inn is a private non-profit, family center whose mission is to create "A Place Like Home" for kids participating in leading edge studies aimed at helping to find cures for current and emerging illnesses.

We had a goal of 1000 likes and I mentioned the Subie community, NASIOC, and how Off Topic likes to rise to the occasion when challenged. Please help prove my coworkers wrong and help us achieve 1000 likes on Facebook.

Happy Holiday!
Dustin

BrainCandy was a cool movie... KITH "salty ham" is the best sketch bit ever.

No facebook likes from me, I give all my likes and shares to the bald cancer kid with one arm who apparently needs my AMEN.

Hmmmm. I'll have to check what kind of calls we get from NIAID before I vote for anyone from NIAID.

Are there any rules that your "gingerbread house" must be made of at least 51% actual gingerbread pieces?

Looks pretty cool though. Hope everyone washed there hands before making it.

Hey Dustin,

I liked the picture but wanted to say thank you so much for what you are doing. NIH is an amazing place where miracles can happen. I spent many nights at the inn while my close friend was receiving treatment at NIH. The people there are truly amazing. unfortunately we did not receive a miracle but none the less i have nothing but respect for NIH and the inn.

You are up against The Dog Gnome Project. Stiff competition. If you post video of the people that made "keep calm and merry on" being beaten with gingerbread bats, I will vote for yours.

Outrageous claim.

Interview about developing it after.

I enjoyed Brain Candy as well (the movie, not the gingerbread media artist.)

Thanks for the "like" The children's inn is a great place to help bring some normality to sick kids and their families.

Other than the fact that the thing was made off work time, with employee's own money. I did have to walk the damn thing over on my lunch break though. Does that count? And remember, it's for the Children....

As for rules, anything on the exterior had to be edible. With that being said, i would not eat anything on it or you might end up in NIH too!

NIH/NIAID = National Institutes of Health (largest medical institute in the world) / National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases ( ie: HIV/AIDS, Ebola, Tuberculous, etc). You know fun stuff.

OrbitalEllipses, what do you do that would illicit calls from us?

As for Braincandy: "It's a drug for the world that gives worms to ex girlfriends! You just don't get it."

That is the grossest oversimplification I've ever read. It's a research institution first and the clinical center is a part of that.

That is correct. 27 institutes, with just about 80% of the budget going to research first and foremost. The clinical center is just 1 of 70+ buildings located on campus. This doesn't even count the remote locations through out the Baltimore/Washington area and beyond (we have the RML lab in the Rocky Mountains (Hamilton, MT).

I don't get calls thank God. I'm not some bigwig obviously, but all I can say is I work in OD. So I could be a janitor or I could be over at OFM, who knows.

I think it's unfair that gingerbread men have to live in homes made of their own flesh.

Didn't think so. Lol. My coworker's mom works for the OD on Executive Dr. For as big as main campus is, it's amazing how many satellite locations are in the Bethesda/Rockville.

Kgb4187,

We don't have any characters made of gingerbread. Perhaps next year we will, and our theme can be the Donner Pass.

You should see the new NCI building(s) off Research Blvd.

I got a friend over at NIMH on Executive.

A lot of the new buildings are really amazing. I was in the Fishers Ln building for a few months until my servicing areas changed. They creep me out a little though. Way too quiet with all their "green" technology, you can hear a pin drop. But 31 has character. Yeah, that's what I'll go with, character.
