Default Just got back and...

So i just got back from Kirkuk, Iraq, and my wife told me she had to jump my car a while back because the battery died. Well from how she told me she did it makes it sound like she messed up and now my battery won't charge even after letting it run for 15-20 minutes. So i guess i am asking if anyone might be able to tell me whats wrong just by my short story. As the battery doesn't seem like it isn't getting charged, I would think of the alternator.

Is there any way of testing this with out haveing to pull it out? And if it the problem how hard is it to change? The last one i changed was on a 66 Chevell and I imagine the chevy was way easier than this is going to be.

Thank you.

Todd

start the car, ground the multimeter on the battery, and put the positive node on the multimeter on the bolt with the power cable coming off the top of the alternator. if it reads voltage the alternator is working. i've got an alternator sitting around if u need one.

yup talked to your wife a few mins ago.

Something to keep in mind is that if she put the boost cables on wrong, ie pos on neg it may have damaged a cell in the battery which is preventing it from holding a charge. I'd get that battery checked first before replacing the alternator.

the car can run on a bad battery and good alternator, but if the alternator is bad and battery is then the car eventually kills the battery and wont start, i'd get a new battery and if the car drains it then its the alternator, i dout it's the alternator

one thing that might have happened is that when she charged the battery or jumped it one of the cables might have been hooked up backwards and that could have done internal damage to the battery

anyways good luck to you
