Unhappy daytime running lights won't turn off!

So I take my car to the car wash, and the next thing I know, I can't turn my running lights off. Even without the engine running and the parking break up, they're still on. I had to pull the head light fuse to keep my battery from dying. I'm going to call the dealership tomorrow morning, and see when they can get me in, but in the mean time does anyone have any ideas about what could be shorted out that might cause this?

If it is just the side indicators it is the switch on top of your steering column, car washes that wipe down your inside is infamous for doing this. I dont know how many people call me about this.

Daytime running lights look silly anyway. just unplug them. The plug is located under that plastic cover on the passenger side just in front of the strut.

ahhh another victim of the infamous steering-column parking light switch. It's mildy amusing to see this pop up every week or two. I'm glad you got it resolved easily!

Ive had some even more embarassing moments.

was at an autocross and a dealer rep was there so I was like "hey my trunk release doesnt work"

he goes and looks and it was just in 'valet' mode.

and then I say "my right rear door wont open fomr the inside!"

child safety switch was on

*doh!*

Straight from I-club FAQ-

"Q: What is that funky switch in the middle of the steering column? Why is it there?

A: That switch is known as the "parking light switch". One of the greatest Subaru features requires that switch. When you turn the car off, the lights go off too. In order to be legal in some countries - you must be able to put the parking lights on (while parked - imagine that). The switch is there so you don't have to leave the car running. "

Well, that makes sense.. Now I'll just rewire it to run a set of true driving lights... And hook it up to ignition...

1 - your saleperson should have shown you the parking light switch when you picked up the car. (blame the dealer?...)
2 - you should have come across it in your owner's manual, even if the salesperson neglected to show you all the cars features. (...blame yourself for not doing the required reading)
