Default Has anybody swap 2.5rs engine into Forrester?

I've searched and cannot find anything about swapping a 2.5rs motor into a SOHC forrester ( I have a 2000 forrester 5 speed )

Has it been done?

Please help....

i havent done it but i imagine it would be very simple. they are just different versions of the same motor.

why are you asking about the swap? do you want dohc or are you just looking for a replacement?

direct replacement if it's same year motor (more involved if it's DOHC, plus no point of swapping that due to overheating problems)

yeah, for all but 1 year (98, btw) 2.5RS, its the same motor as the 2000 Forester for the most part. Same power, no reason to swap unless you blew your forester motor, and then yes, its pretty much a direct drop in and plug in your forester harness to the new motor.

My son's mother has an '00 RS with an 03 2.5L driveline in it. Very drop in.

I'm asking because I purchased a used forrester with a blown motor, I was just trying to find out if it was possible or worth it...

If it is a direct drop in wouldn't the ECU cause a code or not work?

Since it is the same power as an 2.5rs DOHC then I'll just go and replace the SOHC engine

Thanks for the information and help

BUCA,

I did this for my parent's 99' Forester a little over a year ago. Yours is a Phase 2 SOHC engine, which I'm sure you already knew. Any other SOHC Phase 2 engine from any subaru would bolt right in. So that could be Forester, Legacy, Impreza, Baja. I believe there was a change in 2005 which makes things a little more difficult, but 99 through (and including) 2004 works just fine. That gives you quite a bit to choose from, especially given the number of people swapping STi motors into thier cars.

I used a very low mileage 2004 2.5RS engine for the swap, and there were just a few things on the intake side that needed to be swithed over. They were very obvious, and with both engines sitting next to each other on the floor, easy to do. The 2004 runs a slightly higher compression ratio, but the existing computer hasn't had any trouble with it at all.

Try to find the newest motor you can, as Subaru was making incremental internal improvements all the time. The later motors are a lot less prone to head gasket problems (likely what you curently have), and are a heck of a lot less noisy.

That is correct.
