Default Oh noes! Check engine light and more... HELP!

Recently 13" of snow fell in the area. The only problems I encountered was getting into/out of my garage. I have a 2006 Legacy GT wagon (automatic)

Tonight on the way back into my garage, I hit a stubborn patch of snow, and tried to power through it by backing up, and then going forward a few times. On the last try, all of a sudden, every light on the dash lit up, and there was an awful, awful smell coming from the car. Apparently, I made it mad.

After getting the car in the garage, shutting it off, and letting it calm down, I turned it back on. The check engine light is on, and the cruise control light is flashing. (I haven't used the cruise in awhile). Can anyone give me an idea what might be wrong?

Thanks,
Jody

going to have to get the codes pulled.

the cruise light will come on anytime the CEL does. Any kind of failure with engine control system it disables the cruise control.

It could be many things.

Yeah, it's generally a bad idea to plow something that doesn't want to be plowed, and then force it Unless you're in college. Then it just takes a few drinks.

So did you figure out what was wrong?

I know both of my Legacies (1995, 2000) would make a horrible smell from the vicous coupler if I had to drive in deep snow. But those were both manual, your automatic has a different mechanism. I suppose ATF would probably smell pretty bad if you overheated the tranny.

If the snow was deep, could it have knocked an oxygen sensor loose?

But yeah, get the codes pulled. Hopefully that will at least provide some clues. Unfortunately, some of them are the automotive equivalent of "PC Load Letter".
