I can remember running "specialty" plugs 10 years ago in one of my many cars, Splitfires to be exact. Can't say I noticed any increase of power or gas mileage. Went to get a sticker a couple of weeks after the install and it failed emissions. After the station slapped on the rejection sticker I deducted that the only change I had made since the last sticker was putting in those Splitfire plugs. Installed a set of Bosch Platinum plugs the next day, went back to the same station, and the car passed with flying colors.
3 years ago I installed a set of one step colder NGK Iridium IX plugs in my Mustang, engine idled smoother & felt more responsive when hitting the gas. The car has been this way ever since...running like a champ. I still pull a plug or two every year to check things out...they still look like new. When I change plugs in my WRX, NGK Iridium IX's will be the ones I use. Iridium plugs are expensive, but they have the spark of a copper plug and the longevity of a Platinum. interesting read..im with mickey and not impressed with the pulstars. its the cost/gain ratio. The key words were "consistancy" and "reliable" in sparkplug.com's review, where the ngk ix and denso irridiums had in the tq and hp gained were similar.
nice to see the baseline plug were coppers. didnt mention they were new or the factory installed ones |
