Post I FINALLY found my squicking noise.

4 month and like 7 mechanics and I finally tracked down that friggin noise by myself ( With borrowed stetoscope).

To refresh once memory - Squicking/Rattling noise coming from what seems shifter assembly or somewhere in the motor. Loud and annoying but sometimes barely niticable. Always there upon start or shut down.

Sounds like fun? Well, it was not! I was in HEARING pain for 4 month till today.

Want to know what it was and how I fixed it?
I'll give each of you 3 tries to get it right.

I'll log on later and will let you know what it was for real. Have fun.

Eugene

If each one of use gets 3 guesses then this will be the longest thread in internet history at 19800 posts. If I ever get this squeaking noise, I will find it before you post your answer.

Thanks, you've been a ton of help to 6600 people.

Snowman
Bad spellers of the world, UNTIE!!!

EDIT: Forgot my three guesses.

1. Operator head space and timing.
2. Durablater valve shunt.
3. You might be low on radio wave grease.

Wicewa$$es Snowman and NU. Haha, very funny.

Brian, dude! Do not spoil whole fun if I told you!

Anyhow, since that Mr.Big Mouth yeaped it away already here it is.

There is a tiny Alumnium Tin bracket on the top of transmission casing below/infront of firewall. So, it was S shape bent. One side of an S was sitting on VIBRATING trany case (STi Mounts) and other end was effectively sckreeching against firewall.

Well, now you know! Go impress your friends.

Eugene

PS: Air box must be out to see that friggin bracket.

I had the same exact problem. My dealer found the problem in less than 5 minutes. There were wires and some metals touching the transmission housing, so those made squeaking and rattling sound in my car. That sound drove me nuts for 3 months!

I had a funny rattle in the back end of my car. Finally found it by taking out the back seat. Conveniently I also found the wrench I'd lost when I was installing my harness
