Question Question to those with Omori 52mm guages in center of dash.

What did you have to do to the stock WRX guage housing to get the faceplte to fit? What did you have to Dremel away?

Also, I'll post a reply to this when I get to call Omori tomorrow or the day after, but I can't get my brown wire (output switch) to work. I have the output switch of my Omor guages wired to a $3 Piezo buzzer from Radio Shack. For those of you who are not familiar with Omori guages, they have an output switch that is turned on when you reach a certain pre-defined maximum. For example, when my EGTs reach 1550 ¡ÆF the circuit should be completed, thus making my Piezo buzzer go off at 86 decibals of ear piercing goodness.

My Omori gauges go funny when I dim my interior lights too... The three electronic guages work perfectly when I have my headlights on (or off) and the inteior lights at maximum brightness, but when I dim my interior lights the guage readings will wander, This isn't an issue for me because I always keep my interior lights at the brightest or next to the brightest setting, but again I'll post a reply to this when I get to speak with Omori NA.

I'll keep you guys posted. I know I've mentioned two or three negative points in this post, but I love the Omori guages. They are beautifully crafted pieces of work. They are very readable at night, react to changing conditions quickly, and just match the car perfectly. I never thought I'd spend $800 on four guages for my car, but I absolutely love these things, very well made.

I have Omoris and love them as well. They really look sharp and seem to work very well.

I have a different problem with my Omoris and perhaps someone can help me.

I have 60mm EGT, Boost & Oil pressure (soon to add 60mm Oil Temp and Fuel Pressure).

Everything works fine and looks great, except the dimming feature. I found the dimmer wire that goes to my AC controls and tapped off that to go to the "small light" wire on the gauges.

The gauges dim. However, they dim opposite of the dash lights. I realize now, I guess, that the dimmer wire is relative to 12V+ instead of ground, so I guess I need to reverse the ground and the hot for the lighting.

My question is, there are two black ground wires coming from the gauge. Which is the ground for the lighting? The wiring diagrams that came with the gauges doesn't specify and I'm worried that I'll send current through the gauge the wrong way if I choose the wrong ground.

Any help?

I just grounded both grounds from the Omori guages to one ground. Actually, I was installing the Omori guages after I had already had the Subaru guage pack, so I already had the wiring harness with the two grounds and three illuminations. I hooked the four grounds from my oil temp and oil pressure to one ground, and my two EGT, one boost, and one Piezo buzzer ground to the other ground. Then all three of my output switches (brown wires) are going to the hot wire of the Piezo buzzer, but no sound

I can't figure out why my guages wander when I dim my interior lights? They work fine when the headlights are off, so why should that change when I turn on the headlights and dim the interior lights? It's like when I dim the interior lights, the guages lose power That doesn't make sense since they have the 12V ignition wire running to them at all times...

Anyway when I get it figured out I will bump this back to the top.

I too have Omori gauges, in 45mm, and have the same wandering needles when I dim my lights. I discovered that the two black ground wires seem to be connected internally, so the electronics and the lamps both get the same ground controlling through the subaru dimming set up.

I'm looking into the possibility of wiring my gauge lamp separately. I never dim my interior lamps anyway, but want it to work properly because I'm a bit of a perfectionist.

I'll keep my eye on this thread to see if anyone comes up with anything.

I don't know anyone that has fitted 52mm Omoris into the stock hood, but there are people that have fitted other 52's into the stock hood. MikeWRX had a faceplate for this that he got from somewhere. Maybe you can PM him and ask where it came from. I'm sure it was sourced on the board. He did have to trim the OEM hood a little, but when I saw it, it wasn't much, and looked pretty good.

Scoob.

Omori makes a faceplate for the 52mm guages, and I have it. The only thing I need to do to get it to fit is to grind the stock guage hood down some. I'll post what I had to do after I do it. Hopefully it won't require much grinding. My Dremel is going to be wore out after I'm done with my WRX

If it's anything like the GReddy 52mm gauges, you will have to grind (a lot) where the tops of the gauges hit the hood, grind some inside the hood on the sides next to the metal clips (this part is easy and hidden from view, so try your hand at grinding here first), and grind a medium amount where the bottom of the gauges hits the bottom of the hood. This part, I took a little too much out, as you dont need clearance all the way to the front of the bottom part.
