Great info. I'm glad I tried this before I took my car to the dealer and paid $99 for just a diagnosis.

This also saved my ass and money.

been only checking on the driver side seat the entire time.

Dont forget about the passenger seat. In my case, that was at fault.

Hater06, if you're still looking for airbag light answers, try searching here or on a site such as USMB or even Google for "subaru airbag light". You should find threads showing how to pull the airbag code(s) without a trip to the shop or using any reader. Hope this helps. As a new owner of a '97 OBW, I am very impressed by the huge amount of helpful info I've found here and on USMB.

I found this thread a while back after my light came on, I pushed the connectors together and viola! it worked, thanks!
But it is a continuing problem, every month or so it comes back on. Is there a permanent fix for this? I thought about jb welding those bitches together

It's so annoying, maybe I'll try some rubber bands first...
Any other ideas?

Talking Thanks bomber!

Make me another one of those who is glad that he read this thread!
Have a 04WRX with that same Airbag light...went to an independent shop...got ripped $37.50 just to tell me that it was code42 and would require another 2hours+ for $150 or more to tear the steering wheel apart and "fix" the problem. All I did was put the yellow wires under both seats pushed together and like magic saved my butt another $150!
Not sure if the mechanics out there know of this and rip us off or they don't know and are doing what they think is best, but this does seem to be a design flaw (in my case it was a full plastic water bottle that rolled around and probably rolled into the yellow wires and caused that to show the code)...
Either way, hats off to you Bomber....you saved me and quite a few others grief and lots of $$$!

Checked and pressed together both yellow connectors under the seats, airbag light still on.

Found yellow airbag connector under drivers side of dash, pressed together and airbag light turned off!

Great info thread!! Thanks Unabomber.

Unabomber I must say you are the efffing man. I just got my 04 wrx and got a CEL the other day and was pissed so i took it to subaru figures i need a new thermostat so i bought it and now im going to do it myself but today when subaru gave me my baby back the airbag light was on and i stormed back inside and was mad and they said to bring it back tomorrow but there was no way they touched any connectors so i searched airbag light and came across this and you just made my day ten times better.
Thank you Nasioc and unabomber!

just some more info related to my issue earlier this year... if you try the under the seat connector and it does not work, it could be your passenger seatbelt assembly... apparently that was my issue, i got it replaced by subaru and the airbag light went off.

mine isn't on when I start the car, but I drive for about 10 minutes and it comes on. I can pull oer turn the car off and on again and it goes away for another 10 minutes. I have tried to reconnect the connectors under the seat and the dash and nothing.

2006 sti.

I installed 3 gauges and a new radio. I am wondering if I am drawing to much current. I am going to rewire everything and split the gauges off 2 different sources of 12v constant and 12v switched and see if it makes a difference.

Had my wife in the passanger seat all day and the light never came on. Today driving to work it came back on. I checked all the connections under the passanger seat. It stays off for about 10 minutes then pops on. something is funny.

Another bump. 04 wagon here. 87000 miles. Suddenly came on today. Found this thread, unplugged and plugged in the yellow connectors under the seats. Light's off!

They do seem sloppy though. Thinking of just replacing them with some Tamiya connectors.

You changed the passenger seat to what? A seat with no air bag?
