Question High-pitched squeak during upshifting

Hi, I've a stock MY00 rs sedan that occasionally exhibits a high-pitched squeak/squeal during *normal* upshifting (in all gears). It seems to occur more often when the car/engine is "cold" and/or when it's cold outside. I've taken it to the dealer during the day but by the time I drive the 3 mi there the squeaking either "vanishes" or is barely audible to me (and not audible to the mechanic sitting next to me). It's been happening for a few months now. Any ideas?? Thanks!

Check your belts. The symptoms you mention perfectly describe loose/worn belts. Noise or no noise your dealer should have checked them simply based on your complaint. This is basic highschool autoshop stuff.

Timing belt or other belt? Recently the dealer fixed the timing belt "tensioner" so that there is no longer a rattling. Actually I had let the rattling go on for like a year cuz I didn't think anything of it (duh). Could that have been really bad?
Thanks again!

Is it directly related to upshifting??

I have a noise that happens when I upshift with a decent amount of throttle and is directly proportionate to how much slippage there is before it(the clutch) fully grabs. If I gently apply gas and release the clutch it doesn't happen. If I accelerate a little harder and there's more slipping before the clutch graps it will make the noise.

Sound like your problem?

Not that I can offer any answers or solutions.. but just be there with you in the same boat..

Yep, it's only a problem upshifting and the squeaking does turn into a longer squealing if I upshift "harder" (ie. w/ more throttle).

I'll have the dealer check the belts (as recommended in this thread) and hopefully I'll be able to post a happy resolution!
